– 2004 Triumph Thunderbird Sport

The Thunderbird Sport, one of the Hinckley factory’s first classically styled machines, blends traditional lines, impressive three-cylinder muscle and sophisticated, adjustable suspension in a classic, yet powerful, package. Who said retro looks had to equal retro performance? Certainly not Triumph.

The Thunderbird Sport’s DOHC 885cc liquid-cooled engine delivers a healthy 83PS (82bhp) with a fat roll of torque, 76Nm (56ft.lbf) at 6,500 rpm, to play with. Three 36mm flat slide carburettors feed the engine while ‘peashooter’ pipes add a mellow rumble to the exhaust note.

The T’bird Sport has developed a strong following over the years, thanks to its easy-going nature and relaxed riding position. A solid chassis, utilising a high-tensile steel spine frame, makes for a fast-steering yet stable ride out on the open road, while only a gentle touch is needed at lower speeds. Twin disc front brakes and singe disc rear, both with twin-piston callipers, ensure effective stopping ability.

There’s no doubting the Thunderbird Sport’s good looks, or its abilities. With its duo-tone painted tank – Jet Black with a striking Racing Yellow infill – it attracts attention wherever it goes. And with a whole range of Triumph accessories developed specifically for it, the Thunderbird Sport is ready for further glory. The Thunderbird legend lives on…
