– 2000 Triumph Sprint ST
The Sprint ST sport-tourer was introduced to worldwide acclaim for its astonishing abilities in a whole range of riding conditions and activities. It is fair to say it has become the definitive machine in a class already renowned for its extremely high standards.
Behind all the praise is the Sprint ST’s ability to be both sharp steering, powerful sports bike and accomplished long distance tourer, without either of these often contradictory activities compromising each other.
The liquid-cooled, three-cylinder engine is derived from the Daytona 955i, but tuned to produce 110PS (108bhp) with an even broader spread of torque, something which suits various roles as it makes touring riding more relaxed and effortless, while sports riders can still appreciate the dramatic acceleration at lower revs, especially on the exits of corners.
Keeping the performance confidently in check is the huge power of the twin front disc brakes with their four-piston calipers, a power harnessed by the especially fine control available to the rider.
The Sprint ST’s aluminium perimeter frame provides a combination of light weight and torsional stiffness which endows the machine with exceptional high speed stability as well as agility and security on twisting roads.
The ergonomics are designed to promote superb long distance comfort for both rider and passenger, but retain enough of a sporting bias to make high speed control and enthusiastic cornering easy and enjoyable.
The bodywork provides the class benchmark for its weather protection – considerably better than a typical race replica – combined with a sleek and attractive style all designed to maximise rider comfort and control. The optional touring luggage system is both capacious and attractive, since it was designed to integrate with the Sprint ST’s styling from the outset.
At the same time, the Sprint ST furthers all those values which have become associated with all of Triumph’s motorcycles. The build quality and finish are higher than ever, to the very best standards in the industry, ensuring that genuine satisfaction of ownership comes with the appreciation of the Sprint ST’s extraordinary abilities.
Differences between the Sprint ST and Daytona units are:
Cylinder liners (steel instead of coated aluminium).
Pistons (to match liners).
Camshafts – revised lift and timing to boost midrange power
EFI – engine management system is digitally remapped to match the new characteristics of the engine.
