Scrambles More Than Eggs!

THE NEW V7 II RANGE, RAISES THE BAR IN TERMS OF SAFETY AND STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND RIDING COMFORT.

THE V7 II SCAMBLER BRINGS BACK A LOOK THAT SINCE THE ‘70S IS SYNONYMOUS WITH FREEDOM. THE 2-IN-1 HIGH MOUNTED ARROW EXHAUST IS A WORK OF ART WITH ITS INGENIOUS ARCHITECTURE THAT IS BEST COMBINED WITH THE TWO-TONE “ESSETRE” GRAPHICS INSPIRED BY THE FAMOUS 1975 V750 S3.

Easy to ride. Hard to stop riding.

V7 II is now safer thanks to the standard dual channel Continental ABS system and traction control (Moto Guzzi Controllo Trazione) and more enjoyable to ride thanks to a new 6 speed gearbox. The revised engine position and improved ergonomics have greatly enhanced riding comfort. Seat is now lower at 31.1 inches – 790 mm as opposed to the previous 31.6 in – 805mm, also the footpegs have been lowered to make room for taller riders. The new riding position lets the rider enjoy the full benefits of the changes that have been made to the chassis which have made the front end more precise and efficient. All these improvements contribute to fully meet expectations in terms of aesthetics and riding pleasure.

The exclusive V7 II Scrambler is based on V7 II Special with its new graphics, spoked wheels and attention to detail to deliver a classic and timeless style for an identity that is in perfect sync with the scrambler spirit. The new Azzurro Essetre and Rosso Essetre color schemes inspired by ‘70s are complemented by the contrast with new V7 II frame welding where brighter and deeper paint has been applied to enhance the ingenious architecture.

The rest of the bike is the perfect combination between caromed and blacked out parts, now also extended to the tail light assembly and the new brake and clutch levers. The final touch are the hand satin aluminum number plates, machined to perfection adding to the distinctly scrambler look.

V7 – History of Evolution

This new model in the historic V7 range is trendy, agile, easy to customize with an array of accessories and features including the new 750cc, 90° V-twin engine that is more powerful and stays true to the characteristics of the Moto Guzzi tradition, that touring on a motorcycle at its most pure should be nothing but enjoyable.

The completely re-engineered engine still relies on the engineering that made the Moto Guzzi V750 a success among riders in 1977. Since then the engine has been continuously updated yet stays faithful to the original genial layout introduced by Italian engineer Lino Tonti in the 70s. While maintaining the classic transversal 90° V-twin configuration, the engine is now comprised of more than 70% new components. Cutting-edge technological solutions improve functionality, provide greater torque and power even at low rpms, and make the V7 more efficient, with higher fuel economy and reduced emissions.

The fuel tank brings with it a superior metal construction is light and allows a record fuel capacity for a bike of this size with 5.8 gallons which, together with reduced consumption, ensures a range of up to 310 miles. This is further proof of the design philosophy that has guided the entire V7 family: engineering innovation is always intended to restore pleasure to the rider of gripping a real, resounding metal tank in true Moto Guzzi tradition.

The rest of the V7 design confirms the alchemy of tradition and modernism that was introduced in 2008 with the V7 Classic. New lightweight, alloy wheels allow for a reduction in weight at the front and rear, translating to greater agility on the road and cruising through turns.

As with all of Moto Guzzi’s on-road motorcycles, the V7 II Scrambler ABS comes with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty and roadside assistance for one year.

MOTO GUZZI V7 II

THE SECOND ACT OF A FIRST RATE WORK

Improving a Moto Guzzi is never easy. It takes courage, passion and skill to live up to the expectations and reputation of a legendary brand that is beloved the world over for its coveted motorcycles. The best recent example of this magical combination is the California 1400, the Mandello del Lario flagship, a final exam conducted by critics, customers and the market passed with flying colours.
Moto Guzzi relaunches, improving on the other pillar in its product range: the V7. An even more difficult challenge because the V7 – the brand’s best-selling bike since 2009 – represents the Moto Guzzi entry level, the model made for women and men, young people, those who want to buy their first bike ever and broaden their horizons.
The revamping of the “little” V7 represents a clear evolution compared to the previous model, enough to warrant a new name: V7 II. The addition of the Roman numeral historically identifies the most successful and longest running products to come out of Mandello del Lario, such as the V50, Le Mans, 1000 SP, California and now also the V7 in its well-known and popular versions: Stone, Special, Racer.

V7 SECOND GENERATION: COMPLETELY NEW, INFINITE VERSIONS

The second generation of the Moto Guzzi V7 keeps the stylistic personality of its predecessor intact: a design that dialogues between Moto Guzzi shapes from the past combined with the needs of a modern bike capable of satisfying the widest possible range of enthusiasts.
At the same time, Moto Guzzi V7 II is a completely new bike in terms of technology, powertrain, ergonomics, safety, construction quality and finish and riding pleasure
Moto Guzzi V7 II also marks a decisive turning point in the quality and wide range of Moto Guzzi accessories. More than 100 accessories are available which allow a completely unique level of personalisation. The new technical and lifestyle line of apparel join the range of accessories to complete a 100% Made in Guzzi style.
But that’s not all: another extremely important aspect was the design and development of numerous parts in order to allow personalisation of the V7 to the extent that it becomes a true “special” in the most diverse interpretations. This multiplies the V7 II exponentially with respect to the three standard versions and allows each Guzzista to create a completely unique, original and “tailor made” vehicles which is still entirely compatible with the basic version. This is a new Moto Guzzi strategy that confirms the V7 as an extraordinary platform for the creation of special bikes, thanks in part to the enthusiasm with which the greatest customisers in the world take on transformations of Guzzi models into unique, magazine cover works of art.

V7 II: AN EXTRA GEAR

The Moto Guzzi V7 II was born out of the radical and energetic work done on the engine and the chassis where every possible path was explored to increase the level of safety, ergonomics and comfort – in short, the pleasure of riding.
It’s not just an expression; the V7 II truly has an extra gear. All it takes is one look at the completely redesigned gearbox that completes the engine revamping launched in 2012 with the thermal part, electronic management and the fuel system, continued this year with a new alternator and the introduction of forced lubrication with an oil pump.
The six gear spacing allowed the first and last two ratios to be reduced, decreasing the drop in rpm between one gear and the next. For everyday riding this means a better response, even in the use of torque, and even lower fuel consumption.
The primary drive ratio has also been changed, going from 16/21 to 18/23. Along with the gearbox the clutch was also improved, with modifications to the lever, the linkage and the cable in order to achieve a softer action and a more even release.

TOTAL SAFETY

Moto Guzzi has always been at the top of its game with it comes to safety aspects as well.
The 1973 V750 S was one of the first bikes in the world to have dual front disc brakes, followed by the S3 with a disc on the rear as well. In 1975 the Moto Guzzi 850 T3 introduced combined braking, called “integral” used through 2011 on the California ’90 Anniversario. The purpose of this device was to reduce stopping distances and dynamic stability in braking – basically a pioneer ABS system. Today Moto Guzzi continues developing solutions to increase active safety for the rider and, on the V7 II the ABS and MGCT (Moto Guzzi Controllo Trazione) systems are introduced.
The former is a Continental two-channel unit, whereas the latter is a system passed down from the California 1400, simplified in operation, which adapts to the vehicle speed, springing into action based on the difference in speed between the front and rear wheel.
Among other things, the system allows the tyre contact surface with the ground to be recalibrated, thereby compensating for any wear or the use of units that have a profile different than the original standard equipment.

THE FIRST IMPRESSION IS THE ONE THAT COUNTS

Looking at the V7 II for the first time, the trained eye of an enthusiast may sense an initial significant difference: the bike appears to be longer and more front-loaded.
It may seem like an optical illusion, but it is something more: the engine has been tilted 4° toward the front axle and lowered 10 mm compared to the previous model. The proof is in the pudding: three centimetres of knee room were added which, thanks to the new footpegs, lowered 25 mm provide a comfortable seating position even for riders who are a few centimetres taller than average.
Besides comfort, the Moto Guzzi V7 II is a whole other bike in terms of riding pleasure.
All you have to do is squeeze the clutch and engage the gear to appreciate a soft and quiet action which was unheard of on the previous five speed gearbox.
Once you are in the saddle, lowered to 790 mm from the previous height of 805, you’ll discover how the new saddle-handlebar-footpegs triangulation transmits the pleasant sensation of being in the bike and not on top of it like with the previous version.
The riding position also allows you to fully enjoy the changes made to the chassis which, thanks to the new lower and farther forward position of the engine, have made it more communicative and efficient in demanding riding.
The rear axle has also been re-stabilised, increasing suspension negative travel by lowering the cardan final drive output 50 mm. This now allows greater tyre grip during load transfer, both in braking and direction changes.
Sure, the V7 II is not a bike designed to break track records, but even in that situation it is faster now than the previous version and then its direct competitors.

ORIGINAL MOTO GUZZI V7 II ACCESSORIES: AN EVER-WIDENING RANGE

In order to facilitate the Guzzista’s choices, different “reference styles” have been identified: very different customisation formulas following your own personal taste and still leaving you with the widest possibilities of creating your own tailor-made V7, selecting your favourite parts from those in the entire range and mixing and matching. In fact, all of the elements that make up the various configurations are available for purchase individually in order to further exploit the Guzzista’s imagination and creativity. Another particularly important aspect is that the elements can be used both on the new V7 II and on the first generation Moto Guzzi V7 which is already on the road all over the world. The new accessories will allow those who have already owned a Moto Guzzi for a few years to change the look of their bikes, renewing it and thereby entering the world of special bikes easily and simply.

For 2016 the availability of accessories for V7 expands even more, providing enthusiasts with new reference styles and still leaving the expert Guzzista with the possibility of mixing and matching. And so new inspirations arrive directly from the sport and off-road world, in addition to a project designed for the female rider.

Project GUZZI CLUBBER: for the sport world new parts are dedicated in full-on cafè racer style, such as the top fairing in satin finish aluminium with smoked Plexiglas which blends perfectly with the front lines of the motorcycle, the chromium semi-handlebars with a sport bend and handlebar mirrors made from billet aluminium, also with a brushed finish. A range of components follows this style as well (fuel tank, front mudguard, injector covers, side fairings and tail fairing) made in satin finish aluminium. A new tail fairing becomes an element of unmistakeable style and combines with the premium single-seat saddle and a new rear mudguard. Last but not least, the exhaust can be enhanced by special bends for the manifolds, whereas the set-back footpegs for the rider contribute to a sportier riding position.

Project GUZZI ALCE: the off-road world and Moto Guzzi’s off-road heritage have new increased stroke shock absorbers dedicated to them, as well as dust boots for the fork stanchions and a black handlebar with reinforcing crosspiece. The single seat rider saddle also matches the ingenious and attractive portion of the passenger saddle which can be removed to create more room for baggage. The off-road details continue with tubular engine and leg guards, as well as a front headlight guard. Other must-have features are the exhaust unit that runs closely along the right hand side of the vehicle and the black toolbag that can be positioned on the luggage rack or on the fuel tank.

Project LADY GUZZI: for the lady rider Moto Guzzi dedicates a specifically designed range of accessories. Parts like the fuel tank, front mudguard and the headlamp body are painted in a particular and elegant shade. The lowered one-and-a-half seat saddle is quite handy, upholstered in two-tone leather and stitched in a rhombus pattern. The same material and treatment are also used for the side pannier. The range is completed by a chromium handlebar that is straighter and wider than the standard one, round, short shank mirrors made from billet aluminium, the special pair of horn covers in billet aluminium and the bends for the exhaust manifolds.

Naturally the first four styles recommended by Moto Guzzi that take their roots in the deep motorcycling heritage of the Mandello Manufacturer are still available.

DARK RIDER STYLE: this is the first Moto Guzzi recommended reference style made up of accessories created to give your bike a Gothic look inspired by the night life scene and the city. The inspiration is nevertheless also based on Guzzi and its heritage: simply think of the nickname associated with Omobono Tenni, legendary rider for the Mandello manufacturer in the ’30s, known as “the black devil”. The accessories dedicated to this style include a black aluminium top fairing, aluminium side panels, aluminium mudguards, a black tank with the traditional red Moto Guzzi eagle, and wire wheels, letting you give your bike a blacked-out, but sophisticated and contemporary, look.

SCRAMBLER STYLE: there are many available accessories to completely change the image and profile of your V7, transforming it into a bike that is perfectly suited for use on the road, but with an off-road look and a strong personality. Now there are exclusive high quality aluminium satin finish parts. The high two-in-one exhaust, the off-road knobby tyres, the handlebar cross brace and the off-road footpegs constitute the first step closer to the scrambler world. The long satin finish mudguards, the satin finish number plates the satin finish guards and the long vintage ’70s saddle are the elements that complete the transformation. An extra touch of personality is also provided by the tool bag and the handmade leather side panniers.

LEGEND STYLE: another immersion into Guzzi history interpreted in a modern key. In the ’40s the Moto Guzzi Alce, a bike used by the Italian Army, was characterised by its reliability, sturdiness and great flexibility. The configuration that can be achieved with the parts from the Legend world allow you to reinterpret that extremely fascinating concept. The high “two-in-one” silencer, knobby tyres and olive green fuel tank, side panels and mudguards give the bike a strong connotation and a unique look. The high handlebar cross brace, the black luggage rack, the long saddle (comfortable for 2 people) and the natural leather side bag complete and enhance this configuration which stems more than any other from the Moto Guzzi heritage.

DAPPER STYLE: this includes a range of accessories developed and made to recreate the Café Racer world that attracted so much attention on the global motorcycling scene. In fact, the leitmotiv of the project is to enhance the ’70s era through the creation of polished aluminium accessories (mudguards, injector covers, guards, number plates) and accessories such as the low semi-handlebar and the single-seat saddle that convey an attractive riding set-up derived directly from the racing world. Last but not least, the vintage design handlebar mirrors reinterpreted in a modern key are another prestigious and exclusive addition.

Upholstery. The upholstery is styled like the original saddle and is enhanced with the punched “Comfort gel” logo.

THE ORIGINS OF THE LEGENDARY V7

The year was 1961 and the success of the mass produced car was radically reorganizing the motorcycle market. Moto Guzzi, empowered with enviable design capacity reacted to the unfavourable circumstances by exploring new markets, from delivery tricars to agricultural machinery and special vehicles – even cars. For the latter, the genius designer Giulio Cesare Carcano designed a 90° V-twin air cooled engine destined for a sport version of the Fiat 500, capable of touching 140 km/h.
They liked the new engine in Lingotto, but the annual quantity that Vittorio Valletta requested exceeded the production capacity of the Mandello del Lario plant, so the agreement never came to fruition.
Mr. Carcano, however, did not lose heart and he increased the size of the two cylinder engine to 754cc to use it on the “3X3”, a popular, variable track three wheel drive vehicle destined for use by Alpine troops. At the same time a ministerial tender was launched to provide motorcycles for the Highway Police; the winner would be whoever could travel 100,000 km with the lowest maintenance cost. It was the right occasion to place Mr. Carcano’s two cylinder on a bike, the Moto Guzzi V7. It was an innovative project that combined the reliability of automotive standards with a level of comfort and mechanical affordability unknown to the competition that arose the curiosity even of foreign police forces, Los Angeles being among the first. The commissioning of the new V7 700 began in 1964. The bike had a 703.3 cc engine which developed 40 HP and it weighed 230 kg. In 1966 mass production began, destined for the police department and foreign markets, whereas the following year the V7 700 was distributed in Italy at the competitive price of 725,000 lira, much more affordable than the German and English competitors.

EVOLUTION ACCORDING TO LINO TONTI

Giulio Cesare Carcano’s creation was perfected by an expert designer who joined Moto Guzzi in 1967: Lino Toni. Hailing from Forlì, with a great deal of experience in competitions with Mondial, Bianchi and Gilera, the engineer was called on by the general manager Romolo Stefani to expand the range of the maxi-bike from Mandello del Lario. The V7 appeared at the right time, bikes were coming domineeringly back into fashion almost as a reaction to the conformism of the car and the market is particularly open to innovations.
The first thing Tonti did was to increase the engine size to 757 and the power to 45 HP to launch the V7 special in 1969, faster, more refined and elegant compared to the V7. Then he created, initially for the American market, the V7 Ambassador and the California, the latter destined to be one of the greatest Moto Guzzi success stories. The next milestone coincided with Lino Tonti’s masterpiece: the V7 Sport. The designer from Forlì had clear ideas and he set the three parameters of the sport bike from Mandello: 200 km/h, 200 kg, 5 gears. To reach the objective he made some changes to the engine, taking the displacement to 748.3 cc and the power to more than 52 HP, redesigning the crankshaft and camshafts, in addition to placing the alternator in the front in order to keep the vertical bulk down.
The engine was lodged in a tight, double cradle frame, painted red for the first 200 units made in CrMo and assembled directly in the experience department on via Parodi, No. 57.
The bike made its début in 1971 and in June of the same year it participated in the “500 kilometres of Monza” race taking third place with Raimondo Riva. And this was the beginning of a series of flattering results obtained in endurance races such as the 24 Hour Le Mans and Liegi races which would contribute, together with very popular riders such as Vittorio Brambilla, to making it the most famous Italian sport bike of the 1970s.

FROM THE V7 TO THE 850 GENERATION

Over a couple of seasons the technological evolution which was achieved with the V7 Sport Moto Guzzi was also transferred to the rest of the range. The new frame, the four pad front brake and the five speed transmission introduced on the V7 Sport represented, together with the increased engine size, the primary innovations of the V850 GT, a model which would mark the retirement of the lucky V7 Special in 1973. The Sport would also lose the famous alphanumeric name, replaced in 1974 by the Moto Guzzi 750S. The last model to give up the glorious alphanumeric name was the V7 850 California, which would not pass the baton to the new 850 T California until 1976.
