Enhanced Podium Ability…

Honda’s CFR450R is the nuclear option in the motocross wars. Light, powerful, nimble, responsive, it offers the most performance and refinement of any bike in its class. For 2016, we’ve made some fine-tuning changes that make it a little better, but the big features that separate it from the pack remain.

For example, there’s the CRF450R’s Engine Mode Select button that lets you choose between three settings (Standard, Smooth and Aggressive), just by pushing a handlebar-mounted button. Use that in conjunction with our available HRC Fuel Injection Setting Tool, and it’s easier than ever to adjust your engine’s output for specific track conditions.

Next, the CRF450R’s revolutionary KYB Air Fork features both high- and low-speed compression and rebound damping, letting you dial in the CRF450R’s suspension in much quicker.

Details like a fork that’s five millimeters longer this year and a new shock link help make the CRF450R even more stable. There’s even a new chain roller to help. All in all, you have everything you need to put you up front, from the second the start gate drops to when the checkered flag falls.

Going fast just got easier

The CRF450R packs big-bike power into small-bike agility. It turns like lightning on the ground and in the air, finding grip on a whole new level – even when pushed to the limit.

Performance

Go fast, easy.

With its HRC-specification cylinder head, redesigned big-bore exhaust and optimised PGM-FI Dual Fuel settings, the CRF450R’s 449cc Unicam® engine delivers more bottom-end torque, smoothed mid-range and a harder hit up top that goes on longer. So you can pick up the gas early, hook up consistent drive with more rpm, and have peak power to play with. Going fast just got easier.

Fast choices win races

Tweak the CRF450R’s engine performance to adapt to the track.

The Honda-developed 3-way Engine Mode Select Button (EMSB) changes the CRF450R’s engine character to suit the track condition – all controlled from the handlebar. So now you choose how power is delivered. Upgrades to the Honda Unicam engine allow for enhanced durability, torque and top end performance, with a redirected exhaust port for smoother exhaust gas flow.

Maximum Stability

To match the engine’s adaptability, the second generation KYB Pneumatic Spring Forks (PSF2) are lighter, with 10% less friction, and use high and lowspeed rebound damping adjusters on the fork tops for easy access. So no matter what you’re facing – mud, sand or hard pack – the right package is always at your fingertips.

Air power

The air fork offers significant advantage over steel-spring forks.

Designed around the mass-centralised aluminium twin-beam frame, the updated 48mm KYB Pneumatic Spring Forks (PSF2) offer incredible front-end grip and feel – with improved transitional control between compression and rebound.

Enhanced Performance

Within each leg a new cartridge structure reduces 200g while internally charged pressure eliminates the need for any sealing material – cutting friction by 10%. A forced lubrication structure distributes working fluid between the inner and outer sections during compression via a check valve, reducing the risk of air leakage while keeping the bearing lubricated. All adjusters, including high/low speed rebound damping are integrated on the Alumite fork tops, with preload adjusted via Schrader air valve.

Engine Mode Select Button

Not to be confused with a launch mode selector, this handlebar-mounted button lets you dial in engine power delivery character with a push of your thumb. Choose between Standard, Smooth and Aggressive, depending on track conditions.

Cylinder Head and Piston

The CRF450R’s cylinder head features a right-side exhaust port exit that helps the engine deliver more top-end power and over rev, plus better low-end torque feel. The piston’s special heat treatment adds durability, too.

KYB PSF Air Fork

The CRF450R’s 48mm inverted KYB PSF (Pneumatic Spring Fork) air fork is one of our 450’s best features. It weighs less than a conventional spring fork, and adjusting the spring rate is as easy pumping air. This year it’s five millimeters longer too, which helps enhance the bike’s stability.

2016 Honda CRF450R www.Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features

Nothing Can Match Honda Technology.

Motocross bikes are showcases of technology—there’s no arguing that. But the big trophy in that showcase is Honda’s CRF450R, because it’s increasingly obvious to everyone that’s an 450 MX machine has to be more than just about raw power—it has to be about how you get that power to hook up, and how rideable your machine is. And that’s where nobody can come close to Honda.

Modes two and three can even be fine tuned using the optional HRC setting tool. Mode selection is easily accomplished without changing the rider’s hand position or shutting down the engine (as long as the engine is idling).

Programmed for power

The CRF450R’s Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) settings contribute to the engine’s strong low-end torque, remarkable top-end power and generous over-rev capability.

Twin to win

The CRF450R’s twin-muffler exhaust system not only contributes to the engine’s exceptional power characteristics, it’s also positioned tightly to the frame’s

Awesome power & throttle response

By locating the cylinder head’s exhaust outlet on the right side of the engine, the length of the exhaust header pipe could be configured for optimum power and throttle response across the entire rev range.
