2013 KTM 300 EXC Six Days Review
2013 KTM 300 EXC Six Days
The 300 EXC is “READY TO RACE ” for the world’s largest enduro competition, the “International Six Days Enduro”. Six days in succession, over a thousand offroad kilometres, 40 hours in the saddle – a gruelling test, not only for the rider. A whole package of high-quality special options makes the KTM 300 EXC 2013 fit for this ruthless contest, in which more than half the starters bank on KTM every year. 300 EXC Six Days – only authentic with the orange powder-coated frame of the KTM Factory Team.
2013 KTM 300 EXC Six Days Features and Benefits
NEW AIRBOX
The redesigned airbox on the KTM 300 EXC Six Days allows maximum air to pass through in 2013, but minimal dust and spray. Replacement of the twin-air filter takes approx. 15 seconds, without any tools. Absolutely “Ready to Race”.
NEW CYLINDER HEAD
KTM 2-stroke technology is updated and refined year after year. The newly developed cylinder head delivers smoother and more even responsiveness. At the same time, new jets tuned to the modified cylinder head ensure even better rideability. Power-Valve exhaust control, 6-speed transmission and electric starter are a tried and tested KTM standard for 250/300 cm³. From MY 2013, for the 300 EXC Six Days as well!
ADDITIONAL ELECTRIC STARTER
The 300 EXC Six Days is equipped with both kick and electric starters in MY 2013. This simplifies starting the bike in all situations. With its patented placement in a longitudinal direction above the ignition, the compact starter system is optimally protected and provides a decisive advantage in hard offroad use.
ADJUSTABLE IGNITION CURVE
By opening and closing a plug connection, the choice can be made in 2013 between the standard ignition curve and a softer version. Those who prefer even greater convenience can buy a switch for the KTM 300 EXC Six Days from the PowerParts range.
LINEAR POWER DEVELOPMENT
Plenty of power from the bottom up and controllable rideability throughout the rev range. The response of the exhaust control system can be individually tuned by means of different springs. This way, everyone can very easily vary the power development of their EXC (also combinable with the two ignition curves) between “soft” and “aggressive” in a matter of seconds. And the new reed valve block on the 2013 300 EXC Six Days delivers perceptibly better acceleration and more homogeneous power development.
INDIVIDUAL SUSPENSION SETTING
Each EXC model has its own individual suspension settings in 2013, optimally tuned to weight and engine. At the rear, a PDS shock absorber from WP Suspension works with a direct linkage to the upper side of the swingarm. The wide range of setting options for rebound damping and high- and low-speed compression damping are standard on KTM bikes.
HIGH QUALITY WHEELS
High quality, CNC-machined hubs are standard on all KTM wheels. The new, extremely stable, 7050 aluminium rims from GIANT now bear exclusive 6Days lettering. New MAXXIS FIM tyres – specially developed for KTM – provide excellent traction, very precise directional control and a long service life.
BODYWORK
The KTM 300 EXC Six Days has bodywork with extremely slim ergonomics and excellent contact points between rider and machine. It provides unlimited freedom of movement. For MY 2013, the bike stands out with newly styled graphics in the colours of the ISDE in Germany.
HANDLEBAR
Tapered, extremely stable aluminium handlebars from Neken are paraded on the 2013 enduro bikes. For the 2013 model year, new 2-component grips with KTM logo deliver excellent feeling and improved grip.
TRIPLE CLAMP
Meticulously finished triple clamps machined from a solid block are fitted to all Six Days models. Not only do they look classy in anodised orange; above all, they are designed in such a way that they support the responsiveness and sliding behaviour of the new fork and ultimately have a positive effect on the entire handling.
FORK
The Six Days models are equipped with a completely redesigned, 48 mm closed-cartridge fork from WP Suspension. The new 4-chamber technology (4CS) patented by WP not only provides a key benefit in terms of responsiveness and consistent damping characteristics, it is also lighter and oil services prove to be far simpler than on the conventional closed-cartridge versions. This fork overcomes extremely rutted tracks and other such major obstacles with the greatest of ease. Another benefit: The fork can be adapted to track and rider in a matter of clicks at the top of the fork: compression damping on the left-hand shaft, rebound damping on the right.
ENGINE POWER AND WEIGHT
The understandable technology of the two-stroke engine has indisputable advantages, including a high power/displacement ratio and low weight. In terms of power-to-weight ratio, the 2013 KTM 300 EXC Six Days is practically unbeatable thanks to its latest facelift. Unrivalled performance and playful handling are the results.
