2012 KTM 450SX-F Review

Packed with power

When it comes to pure power, there is still nothing to replace displacement. The only problem is applying the power to the ground. The high-quality chassis on the 450 SX-F allows advanced riders to convert the brutal power of the innovative DOHC four-stroke engine into controllable traction, even on the toughest MX tracks. With an even more robust clutch, the 450 SX-F is still a real ace in the motocross/450 class.

New for 2012 the 450 SX-F model is now equipped with Dunlop MX51 tires.

2012 KTM 450SX-F Features and Benefits

Engine

The sensational, state-of-the-art four-stroke single-cylinder engine in the 450 SX-F, featuring twin overhead camshafts and four valves actuated by means of cam levers, excels with an extremely wide usable rev range and immense torque coupled with unrivalled performance.

Exhaust manifold with HPRS

In conjunction with the innovative HPRS (Header Pipe Resonator System) and large-diameter silencer, the super-light titanium exhaust header on the 450 SX-F ensures plenty of power at low noise levels.

Frame

The state-of-the-art frame on the 450 SX-F made from high-quality chrome-molybdenum steel is extremely light and torsion-resistant. It is also characterized by a particularly balanced geometry that combines easy handling with razor-sharp precision.

Telescopic fork

The further improved upside-down telescopic fork incorporating closed-cartridge technology now ensures even greater punch with a somewhat tauter setting. At the same time, the WP fork with 48 mm (1.89 in) outer tube diameter boosts the perfect handling of the 450 SX-F.

Clutch with spring washer

The newly developed clutch on the 450 SX-F, with a robust steel cage and transmission-friendly back-damping, makes use of a spring washer for the first time instead of the customary conical springs, substantially reducing the operating force. The hydraulic mechanism allows sensitive operation of the clutch.

Electric starter

Years ago, KTM proved that an electric starter is very advantageous even in the tough sport of motocross. That’s why the 450 SX-F can also be started at the press of a button.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the 450 SX-F with the very slim seat and radiator shrouds, plus excellent contact points perfect the bike’s ergonomics, making handling even simpler and more precise.
