2025 Yamaha MT-07 Y-AMT: A WHOLE NEW RIDING EXPERIENCE.
Introducing the new 2025 Yamaha MT-07 Y-AMT…
The MT-07 has been among Europe’s best selling motorcycles since its launch, and for good reason. It delivers one of the purest and most thrilling riding experiences, inspired by the riding sub-cultures found on the urban streets of Japan. Famed for its light weight, agile handling and torque-laden CP2 engine, the MT-07 is now punchier than ever. This latest evolution features new styling, chassis updates and technologies to further enhance the riding experience, while not detracting from what has made the MT-07 one of the most important motorcycles of the last decade: grin-inducing fun.
Dawn of a New Darkness
The latest MT-07 features the highest spec yet, including radially mounted front brake calipers, 41 mm inverted forks and lightweight SpinForged wheels. This contributes to a motorcycle with heightened levels of agility, while the innovative acoustic amplifying technology optimises the intake noise and unleashes the famous CP2 growl for the most engaging and immersive ride yet.
The compact new look perfectly embodies the MT-07’s stripped-back nature, with a revised and more commanding riding position and a distinctive identity driven by the minimalist LED headlight unit. With engineering and styling in perfect harmony, nothing has been added to the MT-07 unless it truly adds to the riding experience. The result is a motorcycle which is fleet of foot yet punching hard, elevating the Dark Side of Japan attitude to a whole new level.
Enter the Darkness
Being the runaway market leader for consecutive years tells you all you need to know about the MT-07. It’s been the best-selling Yamaha Hyper Naked every year since its launch in 2014. But what you may not know is how the MT concept came to be.
A decade ago Yamaha’s design team was given a clean sheet of paper and tasked with creating a dynamic new product. The world was already full of good motorcycles, but Yamaha wanted to make a motorcycle pushing the boundaries of fun and value, with a unique character inspired by the urban motorcycling sub-culture found on the streets of Japan. It would be the kind of machine you’d want to ride at every opportunity.
Revolutionizing the way we ride, Y-AMT creates a whole new riding experience – and MT-07 can be equipped with Y-AMT to experience this new dimension. Choose between manual shifting via a finger-operated see-saw switch, or opt for a fully automatic transmission when you need to. Y-AMT works in perfect harmony with Yamaha Ride Control (YRC)’s electronic features, while cruise control further reduces effort for relaxed highway riding. *Cruise Control only available on the MT-07 Y-AMT
The MT-07 has led the industry with its futuristic styling and a torque laden motor that has acquired legions of fans around the world. The edgy, sometimes radical, looks have given the MT series a cult following, inspiring a new generation of motorcyclists to take to two wheels and experience an exhilaration only those in the MT community understand. For 2025 Yamaha again looks to be the category trendsetter, as it welcomes this iconic member of the MT family with a fresh new look, an even higher specification and the option of a Y-AMT equipped version.
Lighter
New 41mm inverted forks adorn the front end of the new MT-07, offering a more planted front end feeling alongside a more modern and premium look. The upside down forks combine with the new chassis to deliver a more engaging ride, while the new die-cast aluminium triple clamp is a first on a large capacity Yamaha. These updates, along with the new design and SpinForged wheels not only enhance the agility of the MT-07, but also play a significant role in the overall weight saving goal. The new MT-07 weighs in at just 183kg – a full kilogram less than the previous model.
SHARPER
The MT-07 is a engaging motorcycle to ride and the design team has sought to convey that in the styling. Up front, the character is defined by the headlamp unit, with the compact LED lights deliberately styled to look like two staring eyes and give the MT-07 its distinctive and sharp aspect. Great care has been taken to package hoses and cabling to maintain a neat appearance through the compact, newly designed fuel tank and tail unit, which completes the aggressiveness of the MT-07.
Smarter
Powered by the legendary 690cc CP2 parallel-twin engine, the fourth-generation MT-07 features an innovative acoustic amplifying system to really elevate the aural experience when riding, improving the connection between rider and machine. Additionally, appearing on the CP2 platform for the first time, the 2025 MT-07 features the YCC-T electronic throttle which has previously been utilised on larger capacity models in the MT-series. Adopting this ride-by-wire throttle technology allows the MT-07 to employ a whole suite of electronic rider aids, which enable customisation and aid enjoyment.

A new era of riding with Y-AMT and Cruise Control
Revolutionising the way we ride, Y-AMT creates a whole new riding experience – and MT-07 can be equipped with Y-AMT to experience this new dimension.
All-new minimalist styling
MT-07 gets a new stripped-back look with a distinctive ‘face’ from the minimalist LED headlight unit, straight from the Dark Side of Japan. With engineering and styling in perfect harmony, nothing is added to the MT-07 unless it truly enhances the riding experience. The result is a motorcycle which connects to its rider in a way few others can match.
Electronic throttle, YRC riding modes and switchable TCS
YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) facilitates a new generation of electronic aids and contributes to an even more linear power delivery to create a greater connection between rider and machine. Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) allows you to choose between two throttle maps and switchable traction control, with the option of a customisable YRC mode to match your own preferences.
Acoustic amplifying technology
Contributing to the visceral connection between rider and machine, the MT-07 features a sound amplification system which harnesses the bike’s induction roar, enhancing and channeling it to the rider to increase the grin-inducing feeling offered by the MT’s famous torque.
Highly responsive adjustable suspension
New 41mm ‘upside down’ forks offer high levels of control and an intuitive level of connection with the front tyre, all while giving a modern look to the MT-07. The highly responsive forks are matched to a linked-type rear shock absorber, which is adjustable for both preload and rebound damping, creating a sporting ride every time.
Lightweight SpinForged wheels with Dunlop radial tyres
Contributing to a lighter and more agile MT-07, the wheels have been manufactured using Yamaha’s patented SpinForged technology. This allows for a thinner and lighter casting, without compromising strength. Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tyres have been specially chosen as OE equipment for MT-07, being famed for their light handling and all-round capabilities.
Full colour 5-inch TFT display with connectivity and navigation
The MT-07’s 5-inch TFT instruments come with multiple themes and smartphone connectivity via the free MyRide app, so you can now listen to music, as well as view incoming call and message notifications on the dashboard. Full map and turn-by-turn navigation is also available through the free Garmin StreetCross app, all of which can be controlled through the new switchgear.
Torque-rich EU5+ 690cc CP2 engine
The jewel in the MT-07’s crown, the soulful parallel-twin has been developed using Yamaha’s crossplane crankshaft technology. Always known for its engaging response and linear torque delivery, internal upgrades to the latest MT-07 gives it even more accessible performance, improved torque, a vibrant soundtrack and a refined gear change, especially with Y-AMT.
Commanding riding position
Known for creating a strong sense of unity between rider and machine, the ergonomics of the latest MT-07 are sportier than ever. The wide tapered aluminium handlebars are now lower and closer to the rider, while the rider triangle makes the MT-07 more agile, as well as suitable for all riders with its 805mm seat height.
Large diameter dual radially mounted front disc brakes
Providing next level stopping power, the fourth-generation MT-07 features large twin discs gripped by radially mounted 4-piston brake calipers. The design facilitates strong and consistent braking performance thanks to the increased rigidity, which ensures forces are equally distributed under hard emergency braking.
New intuitive switchgear and self-cancelling turn signals
Integrated new handlebar switch assemblies enable operation of the MT-07’s wider range of functions, including smartphone connectivity, navigation and riding modes, as well as exploring further menu options. The new turn signals are now self-cancelling and offer ‘three flash’ function for changing lanes. Also new, Emergency Stop Signalling automatically detects emergency braking and applies the indicator lights to automatically notify other road users.
