2025 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT: NOT SO STANDARD.

Introducing the 2025 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT…

This version starts with the standard Rebel 1100 and adds Honda’s high-tech automatic dual-clutch transmission, which has proved to be a big hit on this platform.

With traditional cruiser styling and a torquey parallel-twin engine, Honda’s Rebel 1100 appeals to every variety of cruiser enthusiast, with five trim levels offered for the 2025 model year—all of which benefit from updates to comfort and convenience. Changes include an improved riding position and seat, more-visible meter, and a charging outlet for electronic accessories. In addition, the Rebel 1100 is the first U.S. Honda motorcycle to come with RoadSync; standard on all trim levels, this feature enables on-the-go hands-free navigation, listening to music, checking the local weather forecast and more.

New to the platform is the Rebel 1100 DCT SE. Like the Rebel 1100 DCT, the SE comes standard with Honda’s high-tech dual-clutch transmission and delivers the ultimate cruiser experience, but with more premium styling-focused components preinstalled.

Our Rebel 1100 models are smart, powerful cruisers built for the way we ride today. And this year they’re even better! Updates include a bigger instrument screen, Honda RoadSync, more comfortable seats, a more convenient USB port and more. The biggest news? Check out our all-new Rebel 1100 SE, with tasty upgrades like a headlight cowl, bar-end mirrors, short front fender, custom seat, and an awesome Flare Orange Metallic paint scheme.

Honda’s duo of big-bore Rebel cruisers become a trio with addition of the new ‘street custom’ CMX1100SE. All three share the well-proven 1,084cc twin-cylinder engine, now with bolstered low- and mid-range torque, as well as more power. The Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) option receives low-speed running upgrades to increase usability. Other updates comprise a more ergonomic riding position and new five-inch TFT screen with Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity and USB-C socket. Technical highlights include Throttle By Wire (TBW) control, three default riding modes plus two USER customised modes, three-level Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) and cruise control.

Honda’s A2 licence-friendly 500cc twin-cylinder CMX500 Rebel, released in 17YM, fused tradition with ground-breaking new ideas to capture younger riders for whom a motorcycle is so much more than just transport; riders for whom their motorcycle is a lifestyle, an attitude, an expression of individual identity.

The Rebel’s combination of timeless ‘bobber’ style and unique, forward-looking, contemporary detailing earned it immediate popularity in its first sales season. And it has been far from a one-year wonder: in 2021, 2022 and 2023, the CMX500 Rebel was the best-selling custom style machine in Europe. Accessible, easy to ride and live with, by going its own way the Rebel proved an accomplished success in standard trim. And, as a blank canvas for customisation, it has been a machine more than ready for whatever its owner’s imagination has had in store for it.

For 21YM, where the CMX500 Rebel led, a new motorcycle followed: The CMX1100 Rebel. It took the essence of what made the smaller bike so special and added more performance, more character, and a wealth of Honda’s most advanced technology.

Armed with all the above, the CMX1100 Rebel offered a step up – or across from a different segment altogether – for a wide range of riders looking for something that bit different. In 23YM, the family expanded once again with the introduction of the CMX1100T Rebel, a dedicated Touring version ready to answer the call of the open road.

For 2025 the big Rebel builds on the blocks of continued success and receives a host of upgrades to engine performance, comfort, riding ergonomics and technology.

Plus, there’s a new addition: the CMX1100SE Rebel – an ‘out of the box’ Special Edition factory custom that drips street character thanks to Genuine Honda Accessories. As ever, and in whichever variant, the CMX1100 Rebel’s combination of performance, specification and accessibility will continue to resonate with riders across Europe.

The CMX1100 Rebel has a dual personality. It’s been designed for a leisurely laidback cruise, but also to offer an exciting riding experience when a twisty road presents itself. Riders moving up from smaller bikes will appreciate the manageable dimensions and weight while more experienced riders will find instant, accessible enjoyment from the chassis’ handling potential, thanks to its stiff tubular steel frame, quality naked bike-spec suspension and high-powered braking.

A more relaxed riding position is a key 2025 update: the handlebars move rearward and up, the footpegs forward and the seat is now 10mm thicker with overall seat height a very manageable 710mm. All-comers will love the character and performance of the 1,084cc parallel twin-cylinder engine (as used by the CRF1100L Africa Twin). Especially for 2025 because, like its adventure-ready sibling, it has been re-tuned with a higher compression ratio to give even stronger low- and mid-range punch, with characterful delivery plus an enhanced, evocative exhaust note.

Throttle By Wire (TBW) management brings with it sophisticated rider aids: there are three default riding modes and two user defined options that allows control over a number of different parameters to suit riding conditions or rider mood, including engine power delivery, engine braking, the level of Honda Selectable Torque Control (with integrated Wheelie Control), and the shift schedule of the optional Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), which is itself updated for smoother low-speed response.

As a 21st century bobber, the big Rebel’s stripped-back style speaks volumes with its minimalism. Steel mudguards front and rear sit atop fat tires; the circular headlight mixes old school looks with new school LED technology. A new five-inch TFT display features customisable screens and the smartphone connectivity of Honda RoadSync. The USB-C socket also now locates on the left of the unit.

1083cc Twin-cylinder engine
This bike redefines the modern cruiser with its powerful parallel-twin engine that offers ample torque at any RPM. Proven in our Africa Twin, it combines easy cruising with unmatched revving capability, setting a new standard in its class.

Special camshaft timing
The engine’s distinct power pulse stems from individual camshaft profiles and ignition timing for each cylinder, resulting in optimized power delivery across the entire RPM range, significantly higher than the competition.

Biaxial counterbalance
By using counterbalancing elements on two axes, Honda’s engineers can cancel and fine-tune both primary and coupling vibrations from the engine. The result: we can mount the engine solidly for superior strength and handling.

Unicam® engine design
Our exclusive Unicam® engine delivers impressive power down low and at higher revs too. This innovative layout combines a compact cylinder head for maximum power and efficiency, creating a perfect harmony of form and function.

270-degree-phase-crank
Most parallel twins use a 180-degree crank, but by phasing the Rebel at 270 degrees, you get a unique, rumbling power delivery that’s easy to modulate and produces an awesome exhaust sound.

Superior handling
Our commitment to superior handling extends beyond aesthetics, and these bikes are prime examples of this, as we’ve given equal attention to both cornering abilities and stylish design.

Wide fork
The fat 43mm fork tubes contribute to precise steering and a plush ride while enhancing the bike’s substantial presence, complemented by the unique titanium oxide finish that maintains its sleek blacked-out look.

Throttle by wire
The throttle-by-wire system expands the bike’s versatility. You get four levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control and multiple power delivery modes, including Standard, Rain, Sport, and a fourth customizable option.

Steel frame
The frame is not only an important reason why this bike handles so well, but it’s also an important styling element. The trellis design describes a bold diagonal theme line from the steering head to the swingarm pivot.

New SE trim level
Our new SE model offers a touch of special style with the following additional features: a short front fender, bar-end mirrors, fork boots, a custom seat, color-matched headlight cowl and an exclusive Flare Orange Metallic paint job.
Blacked-out style
These cruisers serve as a rolling blank canvas, eagerly awaiting your personal touch of self-expression. Featuring blacked-out engine pieces, frame, fork, bodywork, and even a black-plated final-drive chain, they catch the eye day and night.

Seamless fuel tank
Reminiscent of custom-built motorcycles, these bikes feature a fuel tank without a flange for a clean, refined aesthetic that enhances its overall design.

The blacked-out exhaust system complements the bike’s style while delivering an incredible sound that makes the riding experience more enjoyable.

All-LED lighting package
When it comes to lighting, the Rebel lineup embraces an all-LED setup, offering lighter, brighter, and longer-lasting illumination.

New Five-Inch TFT Instruments
Of course the big, bright five-inch Thin Film Transistor display gives you all the typical instrument information you want (speedometer, tachometer, time, fuel level, etc.) in a selectable format. But with our new Honda RoadSync app, you can also display music, phone and navigation functions.

Round headlight
In motorcycle design, the headlight holds significant importance, and the round, three-inch nacelle headlight adds personality to its overall appeal.

Optional Accessories
Motorcycles have always been about individuality and expressing yourself, which is why we offer over 30 Honda Accessories for our Rebel 1100, and almost as many for the SE. And since they’re from Honda, you know they’re all designed to look right, fit right and work right.
Low seat height
An impressively low seat height of 27.5 inches ensures most riders can firmly plant their feet on the ground. It makes for a comfortable ride, confident stops, and easy maneuverability in tight spaces. Additional foam makes the seat even more comfortable this year.

Light overall weight
With a low center of gravity and light overall weight, this dynamic machine delivers superior performance and an approachable, fun-filled experience.

Roomy rider triangle
The ideal fusion of relaxed cruiser comfort and dynamic sport riding engagement can be experienced through the thoughtfully crafted rider triangle, and we fine-tuned the grip angle this year for an even better fit. You get a commanding presence that distinguishes this bike from the rest.

Narrow overall width
The remarkable slimness of the bike, particularly at the crucial tank/seat junction, ensures effortless mounting and dismounting, as well as confident footing at every stop.

Solo seat with an optional passenger seat and footpeg kit
Easily configure your ride for solo journeys or passenger comfort with simple, bolt-on features like an optional passenger seat and passenger footpegs.

3.6-Gallon fuel tank
With its iconic shape and a capacity of 3.6 gallons, the fuel tank combines timeless design with excellent fuel efficiency, offering riders an impressive range.

Left-side ignition switch/storage access
These machines feature a left-side ignition switch that keeps the dashboard uncluttered and conveniently unlocks the three-liter under-seat storage compartment.

Wheelie control
Like our high-tech Supersports, these bikes feature front and rear wheel-speed sensors working with the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), letting you dial in three levels of wheelie control.

New USB-C terminal
We’ve repositioned the USB-C terminal up by the instruments this year. That makes it even easier to connect your phone and take advantage of our new Honda RoadSync app. The port is a handy way to keep all your devices charged up, too.

Cruise control
With a bike like this, you’ll want to get out on the open road. That’s why we’ve equipped it with cruise control, letting you connect with the bike and the world around you like never before.

2025 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

STYLING & DESIGN

Simple, raw and casual-yet-serious, the Rebel 1100 has a striking appearance when parked but looks even better in use, thanks to a handlebar-seat-foot peg triangle that unites rider and bike.

The narrow, curvy steel frame has a simple, organic profile. Its 35mm main tube contributes a bulky appearance to the machine’s sleek form, while the rear has looping lines. The low, long, scallop-style, flangeless fuel tank is enhanced by subtle, low-contrast, two-tone colors. Fuel capacity is 3.6 gallons, including a 1.1-gallon reserve—sufficient for touring.

The narrow, saddle-type seat has a soft texture and progressive foam thickness, maximizing comfort for long trips. The narrow front section makes it easier to put both feet on the ground at stops, and the dished design holds the rider comfortably in place, even during vigorous acceleration. The seat is easily removable, revealing a 3-liter storage space, plus 3-amp USB-C terminals, handy for stowing and charging a smartphone or other gadgets.

The front and rear fenders are both made of 1mm steel, produced through a drawing process and are attached with handsome, die-cast aluminum brackets. An available accessory passenger seat bolts to the rear fender.

The engine, frame, suspension and other components are blacked out; even the D.I.D drive chain is plated with black highlighting, enhancing the bike’s raw, cool character.

The “bagger”-style Rebel 1100T DCT trim level comes standard with a fork-mounted large windscreen for protection from the elements, and a pair of lockable hard saddlebags offer a combined 35 liters of storage space.

New for the 2025 model year, the Rebel 1100 DCT SE comes standard with styling-focused features preinstalled, including fork boots, bar-end rear-view mirrors, a color-matched headlight cowl, a short front fender, and a special seat with different cover.

Honda RoadSync
The Rebel 1100 is the first Honda motorcycle offered in the U.S. with Honda RoadSync. Compatible with the iOS and Android smartphone platforms via Bluetooth and the Honda RoadSync app, this feature enables hands-free navigation, listening to music, checking the local weather forecast and more.

Meter / Controls
The ignition switch is located away from the handlebar, on the left side of the frame. The switch can also be used to remove the seat.

The handlebar bend makes for an upright rider position, and one-inch clamps provide a tough look. The left-hand switch cluster includes DCT upshift and downshift controls, a horn, an up-down toggle for scrolling through riding modes, a select/enter button and a hazard-light switch. The right-hand cluster houses the start button and cruise-control switches.

The stylish, round multi-function meter is offset-mounted and has a 4.7-inch diameter screen. It mimics the look of a large analog gauge while the inverted LCD display adds a touch of modern, high-tech beauty. In addition to speedometer, tachometer and tripmeter readings, the cruise-control and transmission functions are displayed on the gauge, all in an intuitive layout.

Lighting
The modern headlight is 6.9 inches in diameter and houses four direct-emitting LED bulbs with thick inner lenses, achieving a cool, iconic look, and its low mounting position contributes to the bike’s sleek profile. Conspicuous light-directing guides are arranged on both sides of the housing to highlight the character lines of the lenses and enhance the field of vision.

The 2.1-inch diameter turn signals are also LED and match well with the Rebel styling. The front signals have impressive-looking round light-guiding rings inside that function as position lights and also enhance the field of vision.

The LED taillight has a thin, simple, oval design that complements the low-slung cruiser style. A small LED light illuminates the license plate.

Cool, raw styling, stimulating performance, modern controls and relaxed comfort come together—all in one machine.

ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN

At the heart of the Rebel 1100 is a torquey, liquid-cooled parallel-twin 1,083cc engine, made popular in the legendary Africa Twin adventure platform and adopted in order to achieve dynamic performance in a cruiser application. The engine’s powerful torque and output are adjusted for easy handling, enabling both exciting rides and pressure-free, relaxed touring. The available automatic DCT further enhances both types of riding experiences.

The parallel-twin design aids vehicle packaging, making it possible to locate heavy parts on the rear of the engine, enhancing mass centralization and a low center of gravity. Further contributing to the tidy engine layout is the Unicam® single-overhead-camshaft valvetrain design. Also found on Honda’s high-performance CRF450R motocrosser, the design lowers the engine’s cylinder head, contributing to the mill’s compact size. In addition, a dry-sump lubrication system places the oil tank inside the crankcase, allowing a thinner oil pan and low CG.

Together, these features contribute to the Rebel 1100’s excellent handling and a deep lean angle for aggressive cornering, while still allowing the squat styling and low seat height (27.5 inches) that are intrinsic to cruisers, and that enable riders to easily place both feet on the ground at stops or during parking-lot maneuvers.

The uneven firing interval provided by the 270-degree crankshaft design animates a pulsing, rhythmic feel at idle and low engine speeds. A two-axis primary balancer minimizes unpleasant vibrations by canceling primary inertia, resulting in a smooth-running engine that still produces substantial power.

Sophisticated electronic ignition timing and fuel-delivery maps give the Rebel 1100 engine a character all its own. Compared to the Africa Twin, the flywheel is 20 percent heavier, increasing the moment of inertia for a torquey characteristic, and the air filter and exhaust-system designs are unique. The combined result is enhanced cylinder “pulsing” at low rpm, while power at higher engine speeds is maximized. The muscular engine signature is unlike that of any other cruiser on the market, delivering both relaxed and exciting riding experiences.

Dual Clutch Transmission
The Rebel 1100, Rebel 1100 SE and Rebel 1100T are available with a six-speed automatic dual clutch transmission—which Honda pioneered in the powersports world. Contributing to a steady, safe, comfortable and fun ride, DCT is a geared transmission with the durability and efficiency of a conventional gearbox, but that also has automatic clutch and gear-shifting, allowing the rider to focus on other operations. There is no clutch lever or foot shift lever.

Honda introduced DCT to powersports in the 2007 Rancher ATV, followed by the 2010 VFR1200F sport-touring motorcycle. Since then, the technology has evolved in high-performance vehicles like the Africa Twin adventure platform and the Talon sport side-by-side, as well as the Pioneer 1000 multipurpose side-by-side and the Gold Wing touring motorcycle.

The latest-generation Honda DCT featured on the Rebel 1100 has two coaxial main shafts and two automatic clutches, one for the odd-numbered gears (1/3/5) and one for the even-numbered gears (2/4/6). Multiple gears are engaged simultaneously so that the transmission is constantly prepared for the next shift. Data, collected by a series of sensors, is processed by the ECU, which uses an advanced algorithm to determine when the shift-control motor should hydraulically trigger gear changes. At those moments, one clutch disengages and the other engages, resulting in shifts that are quick, smooth and seamless. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via an efficient and durable 525 chain.

DCT also allows selection of a manual mode, with gear changes accomplished via buttons on the left switch cluster; even when riding in automatic mode, the rider can force manual shifts (for example, to induce engine braking), with the transmission returning to automatic shifting after several seconds.

Both the Rebel 1100 and the Rebel 1100T are also available with a manual transmission.

ELECTRONIC CONTROLS

In keeping with—and contributing to—its surprising sporting capabilities, the Rebel 1100 touts electronic rider aids not typically associated with the cruiser segment. Throttle-by-wire allows features including Honda Selectable Torque Control (which incorporates Wheelie Control) and riding modes, as well as cruise control.

HSTC / Wheelie Control
By controlling the throttle opening (and thus engine torque), Honda Selectable Torque Control inhibits rear-tire slip during acceleration and cornering, increasing rider confidence. When the level setting is switched on, the system detects differences between front- and rear-wheel speeds (suggesting that the rear tire is spinning). As the calculated slip ratio goes beyond a specific level set by the rider, the ECU controls fuel injection, and optimized engine torque controls rear-wheel drive. An indicator light on the meter panel illuminates when the system is in operation.

HSTC also incorporates Wheelie Control, which limits front-end rise during acceleration. When the system detects that the front wheel is decelerating while the rear wheel is accelerating, it infers that a wheelie is occurring and intervenes. Again, the result is an increase in rider confidence.

Riding Modes
These electronic rider aids, as well as DCT, are controlled and utilized through different ride modes, each of which provides a distinct riding experience, enhancing the Rebel 1100’s “Relax and Excite” ethos.

Three preset ride modes give the rider distinct options that result in different experiences for varying riding conditions, including commuting, long-distance trips, slippery road surfaces and carrying a passenger. Each ride mode is comprised of carefully balanced settings for power, HSTC (including Wheelie Control), engine braking and DCT shift timing.

  • Standard: This mode has middle-of-the-road settings for all parameters, resulting in a riding experience that can be relaxed for city riding or cruising, yet exciting when the throttle is opened. Power is brisk but manageable, shift-timing is appropriate for a wide range of situations, engine braking is natural-feeling and HSTC suppresses unexpected slip.
  • Sport: Programmed for exciting, spirited riding, this mode is great for exhilarating outings, on winding roads for example. It has an aggressive, strong power delivery and low intervention for HSTC. Engine braking is natural-feeling, and gear changes up and down occur at higher rpm, with vigorous blipping on downshifts to emphasize aggressiveness.
  • Rain: Not just for wet conditions, this mode is ideal for situations when traction is limited, but also when a relaxed, enjoyable, comfortable, energy-conserving riding experience is desired. Throttle response and engine braking are both mild, and gear changes occur at lower rpm, for minimum shift shock and vehicle pitching. HSTC has high levels of intervention.

In addition, a customizable User mode can be set up to the rider’s exact preferences. When the bike’s ignition is turned on, the ECU remembers the previously selected mode.

The Rebel 1100 is the only model in its class to come standard with cruise control.

CHASSIS & SUSPENSION

Geometry
With a 59.8-inch wheelbase and a 30º fork angle, the Rebel 1100 achieves a cruiser style that belies its sporting capabilities. This is possible because the caster angle is actually 28º and the trail length is 4.3 inches, achieving both straight-line stability and neutral handling. Spirited riding is also facilitated by the aforementioned 27.5-inch seat height, the middle positioning of the foot pegs and foot controls, the neutral location and bend of the handlebar, the 35-degree bank angle (much more than most cruisers—similar to naked-bike), 4.7 inches of ground clearance and the low curb weight (varying between 487 pounds and 542 pounds, depending on trim level—measured with all required fluids and a full tank of fuel).

The tubular swingarm has a 50.8mm diameter.

Suspension
Also contributing to the sporting potential are high-performance suspension components. Consistent with the bike’s blacked-out styling, the 43mm conventional telescopic fork has stanchions that are coated with dark navy titanium oxide, while the two-part sliders are wrought and die-cast aluminum. A cartridge-type damper and 5.5 inches of wheel travel contribute to the machine’s sporty performance.

Rear suspension comprises dual Showa shocks with 12.5mm shafts and pressurized piggyback reservoirs for tough looks, good road-holding performance and consistent damping force. Rear-wheel travel is 3.7 inches.

At both ends, preload can be adjusted to tailor the ride to load and passenger conditions. The rear preload-adjustment range is particularly broad, allowing appropriate setup for a wide range of rider weights and preferences.

Brakes
Slowing and stopping the Rebel 1100 is accomplished with high-quality braking components similar to those found on sport bikes, resulting in high-level vehicle control in a broad range of riding conditions. The single front caliper has a monobloc, four-piston, radial-mount design and squeezes a floating 330mm rotor. The rear caliper has a single piston and works a 256mm rotor. ABS is standard.

Wheels
Attractive, sporty, cast wheels with five Y-shaped spokes are used both front and rear, providing optimum rigidity and contributing to the bike’s neutral handling character. The radial tires are size 130/70-18 (front) and 180/65-16 (rear), for a voluminous look and powerful styling.

ACCESSORIES
More than any category, cruisers are about customization—for performance, appearance and convenience—and Honda makes that possible with a long list of Rebel 1100 accessories, from minimalist to tour-focused. Examples include cowls, bags, seats, backrests, short fenders and tank pads, heated grips, alarms and more.

Styling & Equipment

The CMX1100 Rebel offers a simple, raw and ‘unprocessed’ look created by the same US-based Honda R&D studio that laid down the style of the CMX500 Rebel. Long and low, with narrow body crowned by the sculpted 13.6L flangeless fuel tank, its minimalist presence has real depth, with proportions that are complemented naturally with a rider on board.

Both front and rear mudguards are drawn from 1mm-thick steel and mounted on die-cast aluminium brackets. The low set 175mm diameter headlight has a classic form but houses four LED bulbs with thick inner lenses for a well-defined frontal signature. The small 55mm circular indicators, too, have classic looks but the oval, clear-lensed LED taillight strikes a contemporary note and chimes with other Rebel details.

Replacing the circular instrument display of the previous design is a new, five-inch full colour TFT screen which uses optical bonding to improve visibility in bright sunlight. By sealing the gap between the cover glass and TFT screen with resin, glare is reduced, and backlight transmittance improved. It’s customisable between Bar, Circle and Simple display patterns and offers the IOS/Android smartphone connectivity of Honda RoadSync.

This feature – alongside a simplified, easy-to-use, backlit 4-way toggle-switch on the left handlebar – allows straightforward, on-screen turn-by-turn navigation as well as the option (via a Bluetooth helmet headset) for the rider to make calls or listen to music using Honda RoadSync. All an owner has to do is download the Honda RoadSync app from either the Play Store or the App Store, connect to the CMX1100 Rebel, and go. Relocating from under the seat the USB-C port is now sited on the left side of the display for convenience and ease of connection.

As before, the Rebel rider can go solo or carry a passenger (the rear seat pad quickly and easily unbolts) and under the seat there’s a handy 3L storage compartment. The ignition key locates on the left side of the frame and opens the seat without having to be removed from the ignition. For long highway days, cruise control is fitted as standard.

The CMX1100T Rebel is designed for the rider that wants all the potential the standard bike offers, but also the ability to cover larger distances with even greater in-built comfort and useful carrying capacity. The fork-mounted half-fairing, available only on the CMX1100T Rebel, is both stylishly evocative and – with its bespoke stubby screen – offers good wind deflection. Hard rear panniers with hinged top lids blend in perfectly and offer a full 35 litres carrying capacity (right 16L, left 19L), an additional 11 litres compared to the nylon accessory saddle bags.

And joining the Rebel roster for 2025 is the street custom chic of the CMX1100SE Rebel. It’s the first factory Honda (apart from the legendary RC213V-S) to wear bar-end mirrors; these are a stylish, aluminium-cut, anti-glare design. Other factory-fit accessories include colour matched nose cowl, specially designed fork leg gaiters and short, sporty front mudguard. A diamond-stitch seat adds style and extra comfort while an anodised radiator cover marks out the SE difference.

Engine

The CMX1100 Rebel’s 1,084cc SOHC 8-valve parallel twin-cylinder engine is derived from that of the CRF1100 Africa Twin which, for 24YM received a major (and very noticeable) boost in low- and mid-range torque with no loss of peak power.

And, for 2025, the CMX1100 Rebel gets the same upgrade giving a sporting edge to its cruising abilities. Bore remains 92mm with 81.5mm stroke; compression ratio is 10.5:1 (from 10.1:1) and the engine now produces 65kW @ 7,250rpm. But for a bike like this it’s all about torque and while peak output stays the same – 98Nm @ 4,750rpm – response is much stronger, from the bottom of the rev range up, 32% more than the Africa Twin engine.

Honda engineers have further tailored the powerful, characterful engine to the CMX1100 Rebel through the use of a model-specific camshaft and flywheel, which help emphasise the natural pulses of the engine.

A 270° phased crankshaft and uneven firing interval ensure character. But unique to the big Rebel a heavy mass flywheel and dedicated valve timing/lift generate an even stronger ‘pulse’ feel, alongside the exhaust design. And, in keeping with the Rebel’s dual personality, the engine pulse changes from one that responds harmoniously at low revs to all throttle inputs, to a more boisterous, sensation-heightening ‘throb’ as rpm rises.

Engine management is via Throttle By Wire (TBW) and PGM-FI, with revised settings to match the new engine, plus new inlet trumpets feeding the throttle bodies from a 7L airbox. Adding to riding satisfaction is the exhaust note, which has been tuned to deliver a deep, low-frequency sound pulse through the 5.3L oval-section muffler below 4,000rpm married to a powerful, high-frequency note as rpm climbs.

Compact dimensions (thanks to the Unicam drive train and semi-dry sump crankcase) centralise mass neatly, make for a low centre of gravity with maximum ground clearance when coupled with the Rebel’s low-slung frame design.

The crankcases split horizontally, and the water pump is housed within the clutch casing with a thermostat integrated into the cylinder head; both six-speed manual and DCT versions of the engine share common crankcases with only minor external differences. Secondary vibrations are neutralised by the mutually reciprocating motion of the pistons, while primary inertial and coupling vibrations are cancelled by use of biaxial balance shafts. The water and oil pumps are driven by the balancer shafts.

A crank pulsar – with relator teeth spaced at 10° intervals – manages misfire detection and an OBD2-2 sensor has been sited downstream of the catalyser for emissions compliance. In addition Linear Air Flow (LAF) sensors in the downpipes give accurate measurement of the air/fuel mixture ratio.

Engine Electronics

TBW manages engine performance and character, plus the level of Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) with integrated Wheelie Control. There are three pre-set modes for the rider to choose covering a wide variety of riding conditions; all rider aids have been revised for the new engine output and character. Mode selection is managed from the left-hand switchgear; an indicator in the instrument display activates when HSTC is working.

STANDARD offers a middle setting for engine power delivery (P) engine braking (EB) and HSTC, delivering a relaxed ride at low rpm and speeds, while unleashing much more of the Rebel’s potential as the revs rise.

RAIN transmits low P delivery and EB, matched to high HSTC, for relaxed riding and extra reassurance on wet or slippery surfaces.

SPORT gives aggressive P and standard EB, with low HSTC intervention to allow maximum performance.

Two USER modes offer the ability to customise between the settings for the preferred combination. Once set, the USER settings are automatically stored so there’s no need to re-set each time the ignition is turned on.

Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)

Honda has sold over 240,000 DCT-equipped motorcycles across Europe since the system first appeared as an option on the VFR1200F in 2010. For the CMX1100 Rebel, since its introduction 57% of owners have chosen the DCT option.

As part of the 2025 update two DCT upgrades were the target for Honda’s development engineers. First, smoother starting from standstill and control at low speed – under 10km/h – for U-turns etc. This requires a ‘quick yet gentle’ driving force at small throttle openings.

Surpassing the operating parameters of the previous generation DCT the new technology applied now estimates the oil pressure of the clutch piston chamber and completely reviews the way feedback gain is applied – rather than just relying on an oil pressure sensor upstream of the clutch piston – resulting in improved, more delicate clutch response. Alongside the way TBW now opens from closed DCT also features a dedicated setting for extremely low speed running.

DCT delivers consistent, seamless gear changes and very quickly becomes second nature in use. It uses two clutches: one for start-up and 1st, 3rd and 5th, the other for 2nd, 4th and 6th, with the mainshaft for each clutch located inside the other for compact packaging.

Each clutch is independently controlled by its own electro-hydraulic circuit. When a gear change occurs, the system pre-selects the target gear using the clutch not currently in use. The first clutch is then electronically disengaged as, simultaneously, the second clutch engages.

The result is a consistent, fast and seamless gear change. Furthermore, as the twin clutches transfer drive from one gear to the next with minimal interruption of the drive to the rear wheel, any gear change shock and pitching of the machine is minimised, making the change feel direct as well as smooth. Extra benefits include durability (as the gears cannot be damaged by missing a gear) impossibility of stalling, low stress urban riding, reduced rider fatigue and extra ‘brain space’ to concentrate on pure riding aspects such as riding line, cornering, braking and acceleration points.

The DCT system offers two distinct riding approaches; the Automatic settings, with pre-programmed shift patterns which constantly read vehicle speed, gear selected and engine rpm to decide when a shift should occur, and the Manual Transmission setting for gear changes using the paddle-shift style triggers on the left handlebar.

Through TBW control, the DCT shift patterns are linked with the three riding modes.

  • In STANDARD riding mode, the DCT shift pattern offers a balance between high-gear, low-speed cruising and low-gear, full-throttle excitement.
  • RAIN selects higher gears more quickly for a super-smooth ride.
  • SPORT delivers higher-rpm and lower gears, holds onto revs for longer before upshifts, and downshifting at higher rpms for more engine braking effect.
  • The USER option also allows the rider to adopt any of the three DCT shift patterns in any riding mode according to preference.

Chassis

A styling statement in itself, the CMX1100 Rebel’s tubular steel frame is based around the raw and simple design of its sibling and features the same defined ‘theme’ line running diagonally front to back, with the fuel tank playing its part sat above the 35mm diameter main tubes which, naturally, are larger than the CMX500 Rebel’s. The 50.8mm diameter swingarm, too has an ‘engineered’ look to match.

Drawn from owner feedback some 2025 revisions have been made to the riding position; the handlebars move 28mm rearward toward the rider, and up 12mm with the footpegs also moving 50mm forward. In conjunction the seat – constructed with a new high-grade urethane foam – is 10mm thicker and slightly wider without impacting ground reach (seat height is a very manageable 710mm, up from 700mm). All these changes combine to make the riding position roomier and more relaxed.

Wheelbase is 1,520mm; the forks have a 30° angle for cruiser style, 2° offset from the 28° ‘rake’ line itself; trail is 110mm. This combination delivers the right look, but also straight-line stability and accurate, easy handling. Kerb weight is set at 226kg with manual transmission, and 236kg for the DCT-equipped option. The CMX1100T Rebel weighs in at 240kg as a manual and 250kg in DCT form, and the CMX1100SE Rebel 237kg.

The overall geometry allows generous lean angles of 34.4° each side (as measured by Honda test engineers), meaning the CMX1100 Rebel can enjoy a twisty ‘canyon’ ride and clip apexes with the best of them.

Cartridge-style front forks feature blacked-out two-piece lowers (manufactured from both extruded and die-cast aluminium) mated to 43mm stanchions finished in a dark navy titanium oxide coating. Twin rear shocks feature a 12.5mm rod and pressurised ‘piggyback’ reservoir. Both front and rear suspension are adjustable for spring preload.

Braking power is served up by a front radial-mount monoblock four-piston caliper biting a 330mm floating disc and at the rear, a single piston caliper grabs a 256mm disc, both managed by ABS. Cast aluminium wheels feature five sporty Y-shaped spokes and wear fat sidewalled tires; a 180/65B16 rear and 130/70B18 front, for a purposeful stance in profile or in three quarter.
