2024 Honda Monkey: LET’S MONKEY AROUND.

Introducing the 2024 Honda Monkey…

Originally introduced in the early 1960s for a Honda-owned Japanese amusement park called Tama Tech, the Honda Monkey remains true to its roots with a fun-yet-practical character. Its authentic retro styling is contrasted by state-of-the-art performance, thanks to features like programmed fuel injection, ABS brakes, plush suspension and a capable 124cc engine. Designed to maximize smiles per gallon, the Monkey’s small stature, light weight and practical performance create an approachable, enjoyable riding experience for a wide variety of riders.

LET YOURSELF FREE
Release the pure fun of motorcycling. It’s what the Monkey’s made for.

MAKE TIME
In the city. Be where you want to be, when you want to be. And enjoy every second.
When you first see a Monkey with its shimmering new blue paint, you smile. When you first ride a Monkey, you’re guaranteed to be wearing the biggest grin, especially with its brand-new engine. Sure, it’s small enough to pack away behind a camper van, and wriggle through gaps in city traffic nothing else will get through. But what the Monkey is really all about is the sheer, basic joy of riding. And that’s the beauty of it.

SMALL BIKE BIG HEART
Ready to ride something completely different?
There’s nothing else quite like a Monkey. It has style all of its own. And character like nothing else. Chromed high-rise handlebars, plus frame, swingarm and shock absorbers painted the same colour as the peanut fuel tank – and the high-level mudguards – all draw attention, as do the chunky block-section tyres. But underneath it has a brand-new, fuel-efficient air-cooled 125cc engine and 5-speed gearbox bolted into a sturdy chassis that features IMU-controlled ABS braking. It’s also small and light, just 104kg, with a comfy seat set just 775mm from the ground. A small bike with a big heart, built to put the fun in your function. That’s Monkey.

WE MAKE THE MOTORCYCLE
You make the magic.
The Monkey’s a feeling. Of living carefree in the moment and making memories for now, and the future. Its history with Honda might go all the way back to 1961 – when the world was a different place – but what it represents, what it is and what it means, is as important now as it ever was. The Monkey is two-wheeled freedom at its best.

2024 Honda Monkey Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features

ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN
The Monkey has a fifth gear for more comfortable cruising, thanks to a modern engine with a wider spread of gear ratios and a 37-tooth rear sprocket. The Monkey’s power plant provides peppy acceleration from low speeds. The 124cc two-valve, overhead-cam, air-cooled engine has an undersquare design, with a narrow bore and long stroke.

  • True to its origins, the Monkey’s horizontal SOHC 124cc single-cylinder engine is simple, robust, and tuned to deliver useful around-town performance.
  • Air-cooled, with bore and stroke of 50.0mm x 63.1mm and compression ratio of 10.0:1, fed by PGM-FI, it produces strong, enjoyable power all the way through the rev range.
  • Simplifying maintenance, a replaceable oil filter is used.

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION
The Monkey’s steel backbone frame has been tuned for a suitable balance between rigidity and supple feel—perfect for the wide variety of conditions the machine is sure to be ridden in. Oval in cross-section, the swingarm echoes the circular design theme that runs through the bike.

  • Wheelbase is 45.0 in., while rake and trail are 25°/82mm for confidence-inspiring handling.
  • Wet weight is a mere 231 pounds, with a seat height of 30.5 inches.
  • High-density urethane seat with 70mm cushion contributes to comfortable ride and iconic looks.
  • The inverted fork is matched by dual shocks for a compliant-yet-sporty ride.
  • A single 220mm front disc and a 190mm rear provide secure stopping performance and can be managed by the available IMU-based ABS.
  • Fat, 12-inch block-pattern tires make for a smooth ride and are sized 120/80-12 65J front and 130/80-12 69J rear.
  • Head pipe, main frame, and engine hanger plate offer optimal strength for stable handling.

STYLING
Classic Monkey styling, including curved surfaces and a trapezoid silhouette highlighting the compact length, harken back to the loveable design of the original Monkey models, putting enthusiastic smiles on the faces of riders and bystanders alike.

  • Glossy 1.5-gallon fuel tank, finished in the same paint color as the frame, swingarm, and shocks, crowns the machine, and proudly wears a historic 3-D “Old Wing” design Honda logo.
  • Chrome steel high-mount front and rear fenders—plus the evocatively stamped exhaust shield, circular mirrors, and high-rise handlebar—all pay homage to the original.
  • Modern technology is fully present within the reincarnation of the classic look: a digital full-LCD circular meter features speedometer, odometer with two trip meters, and six-segment fuel-level indicator.
  • The “wave” pattern key wears the “Old Wing” motif.
  • LED lighting adds modern touch, durability, and energy efficiency to a classic design.

Small but mighty
There’s a lot of performance packed into the Monkey’s compact 124 cc four-stroke engine, and because it’s a Honda, you know it’s going to be super reliable.

Modern technology
The Monkey’s air-cooled engine can trace its roots back a long way, but inside the familiar SOHC design you’ll find fully up-to-date technology. That means you get such features as modern electronics and fuel-injection for efficient, economical performance.

Five-speed transmission
Sure, the Monkey has a style all its own, but its five-speed transmission with manual clutch operates just like that of a conventional full-size motorcycle, with the same benefits of durability, control, and efficiency.

Light weight
Weighing just 104 kg fully fueled, the Monkey boasts a sporty power-to-weight ratio for exciting performance. The light weight also combines with the bike’s compact size to make it easy to manoeuvre, easy to park, easy to store, and easy to load onto the back of an RV or pickup truck.

Smooth handling
Just like a top-of-the-line sportbike, the Monkey comes equipped with an inverted front fork for sure control over all sorts of road conditions. Plus, twin rear shocks combine with fat tires and a well-padded seat to provide excellent ride comfort.

Standard ABS
A bike this fun is going to get ridden a lot, so it has to have a top-shelf braking system. That’s why we equipped the Monkey with standard ABS and hydraulic disc brakes front and back. Whether it’s on wet pavement that’s slipperier than a banana peel, or compromised road surfaces, the Monkey ABS helps you ride with confidence.

Chunky tires
The Monkey’s high-aspect-ratio tires mounted on 12-inch cast wheels do more than just look cool. They’re super practical too, giving you plenty of grip and absorbing bumps on rough road surfaces.

Low seat height
Whether you’re flat-footing it into a parking space or just stopped for a long light, the Monkey’s super-low 776 mm (30.6 in) seat height makes it easy to maneuver and ride.

Multi-function instruments
Retro meets modern in the Monkey’s instrument cluster. The round housing is totally 1960s, while the digital display features a speedometer, odometer, A&B trip meters, fuel gauge, and indicator for low/high beam. It even greets you when you first start the bike!

LED lighting
The Monkey’s round headlight looks retro, but its performance is totally up to date.

Comfortable size
Sure, the Monkey may be small, but we sized it to fit. Case in point: check out the high-rise handlebar, which allows you to comfortably steer and work the controls without feeling cramped.

Sips fuel
With a 5.6 litre tank and incredible fuel efficiency, every fill-up will take you farther than you ever thought possible.
