Beginner biker n00b questions.
I've trolled the boards and finally decided to sign up. I bought a 2005 GS500F with 16200 miles needs some TLC big time I'm hoping someone can help me, i know it needs a battery and a back tire there's also another concern the left hand side leaks a little oil the chain hit this clutch pin and bent it. The owner said its a $12 dollar piece but i have no idea where to find it the other issue is i let my brother ride the bike and at around 70mph the back tire is really bouncy and bike seems like it looses stability, i'll try to upload a video later what could be causing this?

Re: Beginner biker n00b questions.
Is the tire "cupped". Does it have a flat spot on it? Is the tread wear uneven? Is it inflated properly? Is it balanced properly?
As for choice of tires, you will get many opinions on what tires to get.
What do want to do with them? Commute to work? Ride twisties really fast? Ride only on dry pavement? Ride in the rain?
As for the battery...your local motorcycle shop should have one.

Re: Beginner biker n00b questions.
Andy,
First, welcome to the boards and thanks for joining, we're glad to have you. (-:
I don't have any specific knowledge about your particular bike, but my first recommendation is to purchase a shop manual. If you intend to do any of your own wrenching, that is absolutely the first step.
Loss of stability at higher speeds is particularly worrisome, especially given the other issues you've mentioned and the relative 'newness' of the bike. A 2005 with less than 20k on the clock means your bike was barely rode by it's previous owner(s). But, since it's in that 'starter bike' zone, chances are it's been a hard 16,000 miles. My quick and dirty guess is that the bike's been dropped on the left side, and either the monoshock or the swingarm itself is bent out of true. It could just be a bent rim though. One of our members with a lot more experience will be along soon enough with something more substantial. (-:
In the meantime, again, welcome to the Forum.

Re: Beginner biker n00b questions.
I only ride the bike on weekends so for tires something not to break my pocket.
And yes the bike has been dropped on the left side, the old tire is completely bald and yes cracked. Previous owner said it never did it before the shaking and just started after the tire became bald.
I have a budget of $800 to spend on parts for the bike if it goes beyond this I'll be forced to sell it and get something else.

Re: Beginner biker n00b questions.
Not to steer you away from this forum which is one of the best general forums around but a bike specific forum is worthwhile too and the folks at http://www.gstwins.com/gsboard/ will give you all the help you need with your GS500F.

I'm from Worcester MA and I already signed up for gstwin.com but they aren't as quick on accepting members.
