Ya, it would be interesting to commute with. Unfortunately the building I'm in doesn't have any plugins for electric cars or bikes. Not sure how many riders interested in electric bikes would have this issue, but it is an issue for some.

Don't shoot me, but I went with: Fail.

To me, a motorcycle is about the senses. Sound, smell, touch.

Riding a Motorcycle enhances those senses.

The problem I have (and maybe I alone) with electric bikes is that it doesn't have a sound. Tire road noise and electric clicks really don't "do it" for me. It doesn't have a smell. Gas, oil, even exhaust. It doesn't have as much touch. It doesn't "snake, rattle or roll", it just is there.

Sure, it may go faster, may be cheaper to run, but if I wanted that, there are lots of econo-boxes out there I could buy instead that are even safer. Heck, I bought one, a 2015 Hyundai Accent (in manual)!

Now take away manual shifting and add a DCT, ban all gas bikes and it may, just may, kill my love of riding.

So, that's a fail to me.

So what about the 2018 Zero SR?

I really think Zero is on a roll here, they keep improving the electric motorcycle each and every year. Their R&D and the world's R&D in batteries, electric engines, etc, doesn't stop. Great range, cheap running costs.

Sadly, it's way too much money still. And it does look like a Buell doesn't it? Kinda an anti-Buell though for my personal reasons above.

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-Way: The End or The Beginning? We live in a world where things change and today change rapid. We want change. We want to know we are doing the right thing. We want it not tomorrow but today. The question to ask is what do we lose with rapid change? Motorcycle's have been slow to evolve, it took decades for most bikes to get disc-brakes, another 10-20 years before fuel injection, another 10 years for ABS, 10 more for traction control, riding modes and today, 7 speed automatic transmissions and Apple CarPlay. Electric bikes just 20 years ago were more a "garage build/pipe-dream", today they are here. They offer simplification, low running costs, faster acceleration, but without the sound, noise, shake or dare I say, offer the personality/character of the ancient calculator or iPhone X?

Will we see a hybrid gas/electric motorcycle? Will gas motorcycles die off? How will change affect a sport that is very much built on senses? All good questions.

Future or not... I would use this for my infrequent rides. Without constant carb maintenance life would be much simpler. It would handle all of my use. Too bad its still so expensive. No one has any in NY yet outside The City that I've found.
