Hot off the heals of last week's Polaris Slingshot SLR LE, comes the brand new (as of yesterday), 2018 Can-Am Spyder F3! The Spyder F3 is the most affordable (and thus the most basic) Spyder model, so they don't get any cheaper than this...

I'm curious if the 2018 Can-Am Spyder F3 rates higher than the Polaris Slingshot, considering their share many of the same elements. Would you take a Spyder over a Slingshot?

Awesome for sure!!! Have always loved these. A friend at work got one when they first came out and it kept up with her hubby's bike group, it can also bring home a load of groceries. I failed the slingshot but both thumbs up on this. :D

As a sniwmobiler (well, former one, it's sold lol) I have a soft spot for these. I'd love to try one out just to say I did. Would I get it? Probably not, but I'll put a cool vote on it just cause they are pretty cool. More motorcycle like then the slingshot.

Not a motorcycle, uncool for that reason but it does look fun and would get you out of the car.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with snowmobiles. However..... I test drove these before they were released to the public way back when. Back then I thought it was difficult to ride and sounded like hell. Obviously significant changes over the years, but it still looks like a snowmobile. They sound a little better but it is difficult to disguise that 3 cylinder Rotax engine. Everyone I meet that has one likes it, and all have a different and good reason for owning one. Just not for me.

I voted: Cool

It is a great concept, but I am still shocked we are seeing so many variations of them in 2018, do they sell that many? I don't see more than a few each year on the streets when I lived in Houston, Calgary or now in Waterloo.

But that's the beauty of the Spyder as well, it's really different. Same with the slingshot. Although I would be tempted to ride a slingshot than a Spyder as the Spyder (to me) doesn't look as "safe/friendly" to push hard.

So what do we have here with the cheapest Spyder, the F3?

It's not cheap ($18-21k), nor it is overly powerful for the weight (105hp for 900lbs). You do get lots of tech goodies on it though and ABS, TCS, SCS and even power steering... (oh, does power steering knock it out of motorcycle class??).

Till today, I never saw "snowmobile" in it till you all mentioned it! And you are right, it DOES look somewhat snowmobile-ish... wow.

It's still cool though for it's looks and practicality.

Your Coolness Factor of the 2018 Can-Am Spyder F3

Awesome 1
Cool 4
Uncool 4
Fail 2

Total votes: 11

= a Coolwall Factor of 45.5%

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: Polaris Slingshot vs Can-Am Sypder. 3-Wheel vs 3-Wheel. Both are controversial, both suffer from "it is not a motorcycle" syndrome, but both manufacturers claim both are motorcycles. By a win of 10% more Cool, the Can-Am Sypder takes the small win over the Polaris Slingshot. A 45.5% vote though, it below the Cool line, but just barely. In the end, both can be cross-shopped are unique and offer a different "riding style" than a motorcycle and offer a riding experience to those who can't ride 2-wheels. Which 3-wheeler would you prefer?
