#1 Unread post by VermilionX »

i learned about this site from another forum...

http://tapeworks.com/

im gonna order red reflective rimstripes for my bike and then go on from there if im satisfied.

it'll be my poor man's alternative to painting the whole wheel red. :D

Personally I think the rim stickers look ugly, and I've heard they're a pain to fit!

I've picked up a couple of things like that though, I've got a red helmet with a black dragon on the back and a black helmet with a silver playboy bunny on the back. Plus the yellow one I use now.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Take that sticker money and go buy a darned shop manual!
I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.

It's because "stuff" is a singular noun. If you were to say "things", which is a plural noun, then you could use "these."

"Stuff like this"
or
"Things like these"

That said..."things like these" just doesn't sound right...and "stuff like this" should be used instead

Stuff can be plural and a verb.

"Look at my stuff!" would be plural.

"I stuff my shoes so my feet look bigger" is the verb.

I don't think it can be singular. I tried to think of a singular way of using it for like three minutes and drew a blank.

So it'd be "stuff like this is" because someone, somewhere, a long time ago, decided that that was the way to refer to various stuff.

"look at my stuff" refers to multiple items...but it's still a singular noun. The word "stuff" itself follows this same principle (at least the noun version of it). It's a singular noun used to describe multiple object or whathaveyou.

You will be better off taking the wheels off to apply the stickers. They have to go on perfectly or they make the whole wheel look bent. Not a good look.

I couldn't help it. I keep seeing stuff like:

"stuff like these."
"lots of damages."
"but im gonna have the bike's damages touched up and masked"

amongst other things.

And I wonder how I could possibly be seeing that sort of thing from a University student. At a certain point someone needs to step in and point it out.
