BMW F650 engine/maintenance

#1 Unread post by Nick90 »

I am thinking about getting one of the bikes in the F650 line up but am not sure which one. Does anybody have personal experience relating to how long these engines last? Also I am interested in how reliable they are and the ease/difficulty/cost of maintenance. I am new to motorcycles so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have suggestions for similar bikes that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

Are you asking about the F650 singles (nowadays called G650's)? Or the 2009+ F650's, which are actually 800cc twins?
2003 Triumph Trophy 1200
2009 BMW F650GS (wife's)
2012 Triumph Tiger 800
2018 Yamaha XT250 (wife's)
2013 Kawasaki KLX250S

im asking about the older F650's from the late 90s to '07 or so. Including the funduro, F650 GS, and the Dakar

You might want to try searching for a model-specific forum, like http://f650.com/forum/forum.php. It'll be much more helpful when it comes to concerns like reliability and ease/cost of repair.

For what it's worth, I used to have an F650CS and it was pretty bulletproof, but then I only had it for about 3 years.
