changing oil on the vs800 suzuki

i went to suzuki dealer and bought 3 u.s. quarts of oil and a new filter for a 1995 vs800. i told the dealer to give me the oil that he recomends. he sold me 20w50 when i got home , i noticed on the fill plug that its stamped 10w40 whats the difference? can i use the 20w50?

Unless you're starting the bike up in extremely cold weather, it shouldn't make a difference.

Yup. Or unless you've modified to high compression pistons and all that, which if you're asking this question, you haven't.

no modications, temps in 40,s this morning high 70 so temp shouldnt be a problem, i guess i will run the 20/50 trough the summer month, (average temps here in pa 70-80 june to sept).and switch back to 10/40 inthe fall. i appriciate all the input and help, thanks!
