How to keep the radiator clean on a 3,000 mile trip?

#1 Unread post by Soldano16 »

I'm taking a naked Honda 919 on the road. My first liquid cooled bike. I'm assuming my radiator will get fairly covered with bugs along the way.

Cleaning suggestions please or is it really not a potential issue?

Periodically brush off the big chunks as they collect. It should be no more of a problem than riding 3000 miles in 100 mile trips would be.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

You can use soapy water and a toothbrush.

Flushing your radiator once in a while is an essential part of overall vehicle maintenance. The radiator is the part of your car responsible for thermoregulation. When the radiator works properly, it'll keep the engine cool while you drive so it won't overheat, and you'll get a smooth ride. However, if the radiator gets too gunked up by rust or debris, your ride will get the mechanical version of a fever. Too hot to touch, you'll be standing by the side of the road with smoky steam emanating from your engine as you rue the day you forgot to use the radiator flush.

My buddy is thinking of doing the flushing when his new bike arrived this week. We got to finish installing the bumper and fender flares onto the truck this weekend before we can take her in. Upon his initial inspection, the rad needs some tlc.

To maintain a healthy radiator, first clean the radiator blades. ... Most cars need an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
