Solstice Blessings

I live within an hour's ride of the famous Stonehenge, but haven't gone up for the Summer Solstice gathering because it attracts too many people for my comfort. I have been up for Winter Solstice which is a much more intimate crowd.

Tonight is wet & cloudy so unfortunately there won't be much of a sunrise anyway, (due in about 30 mins).

The picture (not mine), is taken at Callanish Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides. It is thought they are 3,000 yrs old! Probably older than Stonehenge (& Scottish)!

I am Hebridean by bloodline on both sides but have not yet been to Lewis. To go for Solstice would be a dream come true!

Maybe one day.............

....there are a few of us, but it a busy time right now, what with the dancing naker around the oak trees, the endless orgies, all that wine needing to be quaffed, plus trying to find a virgin to sacrafice is a bugger these days......
Always ask why.

Funny enough Andrea and I were at the Summer Solstice 2 years ago at Stonehenge, had to wait till 11:30pm before it got dark and we arrived at 5pm-ish. Andrea's parents were visiting and they wanted to see it, we heard the traffic would be mad, and it was! But leaving around 1am, there were still 25 MILES of cars waiting to get in!

I have some photos of that so let me upload them into the our UK gallery and post them here..

Being at the solstice evening was very magical. We didn't stay the night for the sunrise, it was too cold, too many people around, etc. But being there for a handful of hours and watching the sun going down was amazing. Something we will remember forever.

Happy (belated) Solstice!! It's one of my least celebrated sabbats (Beltane is my absolute favorite, followed by Samhain, and then the Winter Solstice). Blessed be!

Cheers,
Loonette

Happy Harvest

The Autumn equinox is celebrated in the Northern hemisphere between 21st & 24th September.

There are three festivals commonly known as Lammas - Mabon - Samhain

Like many ancient celebrations these have been co opted into the Christian calendar & are often known as Harvest Festivals.

As a child we were invited to take fOod to church & I guess as my parents were country born we usually tried to take fresh home grown produce to represent harvest.
