so my uncle bob just crashed down in florida

Near Okeechobee, on rt 27 i believe. Happened on saturday. From what i can gather from my grandmother he was changing lanes in a construction zone. The road was uneven i guess and the bike went out from under him. His wife Marylin was riding pillion, died instantly. He's had a few sesiures, swelling of the brain, bruised heart, and road rash down he entire right side. They're keeping him in an unconcious state hoping that the swelling will subside, though there's a chance he might not make it.

The worst part is that the tox reports came back positive for weed. And on top of that, he's legally blind in one eye. They even found a small bong in his saddle bag. He was wearing nothing in the way of gear, and his wife in leathers and a helmet dies instantly. Someone's got a shitty sense of humor for that one.

If anyone who lives in that area sees a police report in a newspaper or something, can you scan it for me? thanks

sorry to hear that. I'm guessing family members are telling you to reconsider riding?
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

Thanks guys. I feel bad, but im torn between being angry at him (for riding high) and feeling bad for him.

Yeah, well over 10 years.

Suprisingly, no. My dad started to give me "the motorcycle lecture" then stops and said that i've probably heard it enough times and to just be careful.

Sorry to hear it. Hope he does well, although what is best for him after killing his wife I don't know. I would feel pretty bad if it were me.

Some people I know love to drink before riding. They feel they can handle it, as should anyone "tough enough". At that point I'll leave, and catch some guff.

Dulling your senses and/or reflexes really leaves you at the mercy of the unexpected.

These are the same people who give me crap for wearing my mesh jacket in hot weather.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, Geoff. That sucks, no 2 ways about it.

Before you freak too badly about him riding stoned, remember that 'the tox report came back positive' doesn't mean he was actually high at the time. THC stays in the body for a month or more in levels that will register on a tox screen, longer if that body has a large number of fat cells. It could be showing he smoked the night before, the week before or longer. Or he could have butted the joint 10 seconds before impact. An average tox screen won't tell you, you have to do a specific blood analysis crossed with an accurate smoking and personal history to know if he was impared at the time. And the authorities can't do that now, and have no interest in doing it if they could. They only want to give the impression that it was the cause so they have something to point at and say 'See...' and assign liability to.

Whatever the case, he may have been positive, but not nessesarily impaired at the time. So don't let it tinge your memory of him based on that alone.

Hang in there, Dude.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
