After its third successful year and with other motorcycle events suffering the consequences of the credit crunch, MCN are pleased to announce impressive attendance figures of 36,088 (organiser’s statement subject to audit) for 2009 for the MCN London Motorcycle Show. Even though the number of visitors were down slightly year on year, compared with the drop in attendance seen by the motorcycle show at the NEC, this was a fantastic result for London’s biggest and best bike show. The site for this event is also currently undergoing significant alterations to expand itself into one of the UK’s top exhibition halls and Olympic venue, which can bring nothing but added value for trading in the capital.
Despite the adverse weather conditions and even snow on the Sunday, bikers in the capital were undettered as they headed to ExCeL across the four days. The show offered the public great value for money with a first rate combination of top bikes, features bikes, prized competitions and free live action courtesy of Carole Nash.
MCN presented more of the premium maunfacturers than any year before, and proudly welcomed for the first time, Triumph, Victory and Bimota who showcased their 2009 models alongside Harley-Davidson, Buell, Honda, Ducati, BMW, KTM, Yamaha, and Kawasaki.
Alan Jones, Press Manager for Ducati UK commented: “The show was a great success for Ducati with huge interest being shown in our new models. In many ways the show was perfect timing for us, [and] we were also able to launch our 2009 Ducati Clothing Collection which was well received and produced record sales”.
MCN hosted a wide and varied range of 150 exhibitors offering the thousands of visitor’s exclusive deals from everything to the best biking gear to bargain tours abroad. Exhibitors acknowledged a substantial increase in sales and bookings proving that the show is a key platform for them in these tough times.
Marc Thomas - Director of M & P Direct Ltd commented: "What a fantastic start to the year we had at the MCN London Motorcycle Show and you would never have believed we were in a credit crunch. As one of Europe's largest motorcycle parts and accessories company we had special offers exclusive to visitors at the show, and they went down so well we even had to return back to Swansea on Friday night and restock for the remainder of the show over the weekend!"
Classic motorcycle lovers were also treated to The Classic Bike of the Year competition that was double the size of 2008. The new improved feature saw 14 finalists appear at the show and visitors were able to interact and vote for their favourites on the stand. The winner Stuart Milton and his 1982 Ducati 900 MHR claimed the 1000 Guineas cheque.
The FREE live stunt shows in the Carole Nash Live Action Arena proved incredibly popular with visitors; packed full of live exciting stunts from Terry Grant, Kevin Carmichael and UKFMX freestylers, MCN motorcycle fans were entertained throughout the weekend. Carole Nash commented: “We were proud to sponsor the Live Action Arena at this year’s MCN London Motorcycle Show”.
Caroline Meech, Group Events Manager for Bauer Media said: “We are delighted that the show was once again a great success, and that so many people came along to enjoy what was a brilliant weekend. We are pleased that attendance was higher than expected, especially given the impact the current economic climate has had on consumer shows over the past year”.
