Yamaha XJ600N - Clicking - Timing chain adjustment?

#1 Unread post by rockardandyh »

Have noticed an unusual clicking noise coming from near the top of the engine on T reg Yamaha XJ600N. A mechanic I asked thought it could be that the timing chain needs to be tweaked. Is there a way to do this without taking much apart? Any ideas what it could be if not the timing chain. Thanks

Could be valves, or could be your cam chain tensioner. If it's your tensioner it's a pretty easy fix without taking too much off and out. Just pull off the tensioner, check it's spring to see if it's still a very strong push, and if it is then you get to take off the top end to check the chain.
