Love the V Star 650. I bought a 1998 with a little over 9,000 miles on it, but it did have reciepts for all the service records. It's fun to ride, very easy to control. I've only had it up to 50, once, since I'm still a very new rider. It is definitely much bigger feeling than my Rebel. Took me a few minutes to get used to turning on it.

Hey the Rebel is a classic Honda with proven reliability and a great starter bike. Keep her in good shape, change the oil and you'll never have problems selling her to a newbies.

Hi everyone ... I owned an 85 Rebel 250 for a year and currently own an 03 Suzuki Savage (same as the S40), and can comment on the one vs the other as far as owning/riding is concerned. First off, I loved my Rebel ... a perfect bike for the novice rider, lightweight, easy on the pocketbook, easy to ride, maintenance friendly and nice looking. Only draw-back (IMO) was the amount of shift lever stirring required. The Savage (S40) is also a fantastic, simple, no-frills motorcycle. Also lightweight and easy to ride, it's biggest advantages over the Rebel are it's ample low-end torque, which results less shifter stirring and enables the Savage to scamper up steep hills like a goat ... also, the belt drive is cleaner, quieter and requires less maintenance. The Rebel however steers a bit better than the Savage and gets better fuel milage ... also changing the spark plugs and battery is much easier on the Rebel ... the Savage requires the removal of the fuel tank to service the plug (a bit of a pain).
Either is a great motorcycle and both are more than capable of being a long-term keeper!

It was gratifying to read the post of PerrydaSavage, because I just bought an '05 Savage (Suzuki Boulevard S40) on Saturday, and will pick it up from the dealer on Tuesday or Wednesday!

Just turned over 10,000 miles. To date (after 600 mile service) the oil was changed every 1500 to 2000 miles. Spark plugs got changed at 8000 miles. i've adjusted and greased the chain 3 times. Tires still look pretty good. i imagine i'll get new tires at 15,000 miles and a chain at 20,000. No service issues whatsoever. Average mpg over 10,000 miles(purchase date: 15 Dec 04) has been 78.9 mpg. Still the best $3000 i've ever spent!

That's good to hear Scott - I tried to convince my wife to get a little bigger bike but she won't hear of it. She has about 8k on it and it's purring like a kitten with similar mpg.

I just bought a 2007 Honda Rebel and I must say I am very impressed with this little bike. It shows a lot of heart and is an easy rider, which is great for a beginner like me!

I have 2 son's that will be coming up behind me, so I know this little rebel will be well used.

I know I will eventually outgrow it, but being a beginner, that is a way's off yet!
