I want to upgrade my headlight bulb on my Vulcan 500 LTD. I heard that the Sylvania Silverstar H4ST High Performance Halogen bulb is good for a low price.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Why is your suggestion better?

Also do most upgraded or modern blubs need to be handled with a cloth rather than your hands?

Any tips on general installation?

Thanks for any help. Dan O.

The best upgrade I have found is to put in a Bosch halogen conversion kit. These seem to throw better light than the others regardless of bulb. (also cost about twice as much as other halogen kits, but worth it) And do not touch a halogen bulb, the oils in your skin will mess them up. If you do just rinse with isopropanol (rubbing) alcohol before you use.

I like the PIAA anti vibration bulb with the 1 year warranty.

110 watts of light with only 55 watts of draw.

I use Siverstars in my bike. I've been very happy with them. I've got additional lights on the bike.

Halogen bulbs get so hot, any residual oils from fingers will cause the glass to heat unevenly and the bulb will fail (at least that's the story I've been told). They're so expensive, why take the chance? The package will tell you if you need to keep bare fingers off.

Silverstars overdrive the element leading to a shorter lifespan.

One of the best upgrades I've found to a stock motorcycle light is a headlight relay kit. It uses bigger wire from your battery to your light to avoid the voltage drop from which the stock wiring harness suffers.

ZENON... 3 times brighter and last 10 times longer than Halogen bulbs.

Ditto. That's what I'm running. Marked improvement.

I love the Amazon ad though. The product is advertised as a HEADLIGHT BULB and then the description says, "PIAA motorcycle lights are not intended to be used for headlight purposes, nor are they certified for headlight usage." Shakespeare had it right--first kill all the lawyers.
