Looks like Yamaha is finally adding a mid weight sportbike FZ6R http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/produ ... image.aspx

It looks pretty good and I like the color schemes. It is heavier though than the Kawasaki 650R and a bit more pricey. It is nice to have a bit more selection added into the mid-weight sport bike category :hurrah:

It looks a lot like a FZ6 with a bigger fairing and a different exhaust. Any real changes?

Not sure. If I was going to buy new I always figured I would get the Kawi 650r because it didn't have an aggressive seat position and it's more powerful than the 250 but not so powerful as a supersport. The 650r seemed (that I could find) the only one in its class, but this new yamaha also has upright seating and similar power.

My Motorcycle: '93 Honda Nighthawk 750
Not much new here. The FZ6 has been around for awhile. This "r" model just seems to have more plastic on it.

I wouldn't put the FZ6 in the same class as the two cylinder Kaw 650r. The FZ6 uses a slightly tamed version of the GSXR-6 engine. We're talking around 100 fast revving horses here. I rode one last year and was very much impressed with its ability to get up and go. It easily lifted the front wheel in 1st and 2nd without even trying. This is not a "beginner model".

The FZ6 uses a de-tuned version of the R6 engine.

For that class you've got the 650r, (and new naked er6n they are bringing over). SV 650 and suzuki's new Gladius which is I think the same engine as the sv. The fz6 is fairly tame under 8k but after that it "livens" up quickly. I think that some people could take it as a beginner bike. Those are only the 'new' ones though, there are tons of older bikes that would suit your needs as well if used is an option.

Correct. Got my Suzukis and Yamahas mixed up there :oops:

The model is very nice... colour is my favourite. But still i will prefer my kawasaki.
