i've got 400 miles or so on my new Pirelli Diablo Strada's so far i love them, although due to commuting, and the weather I still have about .75" chicken strip on them, so I havnt completely tested yet.

I went with a sport touring tire because i ride 10,000+ miles a year and I dont want to replace tires ever 5k. But so far, i'm happy with the gripyness of them too.

maybe it's the monster bike keeping them planted, but i've had no problem at all with my metzlers. i ride as agressively as the bike allows, but i do some decent distance riding too, and after 8000 miles, i'm about due for a new rear tire and i'll probably get another metzler

I dunno about others, but the D404s are cheaper at Chaparral Racing.

i have pirelli diablo corsa IIIs and i came from OEM Bridgestone battlax BT-014s.

the battlax sucks but i heard that the non OEM ones are better.

i love the diablo corsa IIIs. they grip really well compared to the battlax.

although next tire change, i wanna try the new michelin pilot powers 2CT.

my style of riding is mellow but the not below speed limit type of mellow.

how is the wear on the diablo corsa III?

I've got a pair of Dunlop D404s sitting in my living room right now waiting to get mounted on my Virago.

Hopefully this will be a nice upgrade from the Kendas on there right now.

I have over 28,000km on my Dunlop 404's that came with the bike. I am putting new Dunlops on tomorrow. Well, the bike shop is that is. :)

I found they had good traction and only now that the back tire is getting thin is it slippery in the wet. It's still rides well on a dry road though.

Style of riding, casual to agressive fun.

Cheng Shin Marquis tire on rear, Dunlop Roadmaster TT100 on front.
Rides great
The Dunlop provides great grip and excellent handeling.
I don't even know if Cheng Shin makes tires anymore. It's a really old tire but still holds up perfectly, great tread life, handles just fine.
That's all I know, never ridden another streetbike before, besides on the back of my dad's old goldwing.
Hope it helps. :D

My wife has the SAME bike and she really loves it. So much so infact we put on a Pirelli Sport Demon on the front! :D It's really improved the handling around the corners over the Bridgestone Spitfire S11 she had before it.

-Type of Tire (brand, model)
Balance between price and performance. I usually go with a Bridgestone Spitfire S11's or top end Cheng Shin's (Marquis prefered) on the rear. If they have a great tire on sale like Pirelli I'll go with that. AVOID Carlisle brand motorcycle tires (they stopped making them in the 80's) which means they are WAAAY too old to use.

-Type of bike (sport bike, Sport Touring, cruiser....)
1982 Yamaha XJ650R Seca (note the R!) = Standard Sport
1980 Honda CB400T (standard)
1978 GS550 (standard)

-Type of riding ( commuting, aggressive riding, long distance...)
Communting and day touring. All weather conditions and temperatures (including winter riding)

-Your review of the tire (likes, dislikes, how long it lasted)
NOTE: Due to the age of my bikes, these are bias-ply tires, not radial versions.

The Spitfire S11's are a good ol' standby tire. Nothing spectacular about them, but they do handle well in all conditions, last a long time and are an unbeatable price. In fact, I've never run one out in all the years I've owned a bike! So mileage on them is great. I do trust them for all my bikes.

The Cheng Shin Marquis are a better tire than what you might think. They are really sticky in their first couple of years going to spitfire S11 stickiness after that. Great for the rear (that's all I use a Cheng Shin for!) and can handle rock roads, heavy rain and higher speeds just fine. Great price and they are lasting a long time so far (about 12,000km) and 1/2 through.

The Pirelli Sport Demon is a fanstastic tire. It sticks in the corners better than any tire I've used or tried out yet. It's expensive for a bias-ply tire so get it at a discount or on sale if you can.

I've also used a Carlisle tire I purchased used a few years ago on my '78 GS550. For those that do not know about Carlisle, they stopped making motorcycle tires in the early 80's. Probably the only motorcycle in Canada still using a Carlisle motorcycle tire! It wasn't a bad tire, but I can only guess it was 20 years old! DOH! So much for buying $20 motorcycle tires at a junk yard! I shoulda known better... :frusty:

I checked Metzeler since I could only check one, my current tires and the ones I've liked best so far on my GS500's are the bias Lasertec front with the Conti Road Attack radial rear. Hard to beat for good combination of tire life and handling.

I see the CB400T mentioned above a couple times and that was my first bike back in 84 but I only kept it for 6 months and 6k miles and traded it in on a CB750K. I used to put Dunlop touring tires on my four Hondas, first the 291 and then the 491 and got 25-30k miles from the rears, just didn't realize how poorly they handled though.

Tried the Metz and Dunlop touring tires on my first GS500 and wasn't happy with them. I tried the BT45s and the first set handled and lasted well but a second rear BT45 was half worn out in 2k miles when I picked up the pace a bit and a Metz Z2 sport touring rear then went 14k with even harder use.

So I've used the Z4/Z2 combo and the Avon AV45/46 and then a set of Lasertecs and they really were almost as good as radials as advertised. Ended up with my current favorite Lasertec front and a Road Attack rear and they are very good, time will tell how long the sticky Road Attack lasts. Here's the tires I've used and the miles I've run them for the last 120k miles on my GS's:

What's next? My local suppliers will have the new Avon Storms this year as well as the new Avon Roadriders, a bargain price tire thar looks pretty good. Probably try the Storms but maybe it's time to slow down and act my age and put on a set of the Roadriders when my Laser/Attack combo wears out later this summer. :(

Always used Dunlop. Found them reliable and safe.
