Honda Hornet 250
Honda Hornet 250
Hey guys im new the bikeing and im wondering what everyone thinks oh the Honda CB250 Hornet, is it a good bike, any common problems etc etc etc
Cheers

Oh I love the Hornet 250! Great looking bikes and a relatively friendly ride.
The 250 should be a pretty smooth bike to start on. It is an I4 so the power curve is relatively smooth, revs high near 16k redline. The seat height isn't tall, but it isn't the most narrow either, so it on it for feel of course. It is a hint heavier IIRC than the VTR250 but manuevers really well.
I think of it as my VTR250s sister of sorts. If you're looking for a Vtwin with a little pep, VTR250 like mine is the way to go. Actually for what I'm doing with it and how it's treating me, you'd love it for sure.
Eh, pardon me, my bias is showing

VTR is slightly taller, not by much. I think they range 760-780mm depending on the year model. The pegs are comfortable for me, but I'm not tall, 5'3" with a 29-30" inseam. So definietly try it out to see if you fold ok for the bike. If you sat on the Hornet already and it wasn't cramped the VTR should feel ok too.
Go to the blog section and look in my blog for vids. You can see the VTR in slowpoke beginner action
You can hear the little rumble too. Its not a bad soundin' stock 250.

It's not availible in North America, but by all accounts it's a great bike, and more then capable of getting you around. As an added bonus it looks pretty damn nice as well.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Indeed it is!

I wonder why its not available on the US
it would sell more than the Nighthawk 250, I would think.

Because it is a nice standard naked 250 - "no standards in US" post ring a bell? Only in JPN, UK, AU(?) NZ(?)...etc
The Hornet 250 is the same as the 599 and 919.

I would kick the Pope in the face for one of those. The Nighthawk at my latest rider training was laughably sad.CNF2002 wrote:Indeed it is!

To be fair, CNF makes a very valid point. The Nighthawk 250, which is sold in the U.S., is a naked standard 250. Why not replace it with the Hornet? Much as the mid-range, old-tech, Nighthawk 750 was replaced by the Hornet/599. Same naked standard style, with updated technology and better power.Shorts wrote:CNF2002 wrote:Indeed it is!

My guess is that Honda is making a better profit selling the old technology Nighthawk as an intro bike. They price it like it was the latest nugget from the folks in R&D. If they replaced it with a more expensive unit like the Hornet, they wouldn't be able to charge much more for it. The relatively primitive Nighthawk 250 is already priced $600 more than the Kaw EX250. Although the Kaw EX250 has been mostly unchanged for 20 yrs., it's engine and suspension technology are way ahead of the little Nighthawk's, which is pretty much 1970s technology.
The reason that Honda sells the Hornet 250 in other countries is that folks who buy 250s in those other countries wouldn't settle for what we do.
In Japan and the U.K., for example, a 250 is serious transportation, not just an entry level bike that will be replaced in short order with something bigger.

Re: Honda Hornet 250
The Honda Hornet 250 is also known as the CB250F. I still wonder why Honda didn't introduce the single-cylinder Hornet 250 again in the market. Honda could have updated it to compete it with the like of Yamaha Mt-25 and the Kawasaki Z250. I would still love to see an aggressive-looking new age streetfighter instead of the CB250R. Honda should definitely bring the Hornet 250 again.
