I was wondering if I was the only one. When Ilearned to drive a manual car, I was told 1st gear is only to get you rolling, once your in motion switch to second. It's stuck with me on the bike as well.
i was told that too and i did it for a while.
i still do it though if im just driving in a mellow pace.
i don't always follow the same pattern on shifting. sometimes i shift earlier, sometimes i shift late. it just depends on the road condition.

went riding w/ fellow TMW member, dirtytoes, today.
he took me around the topanga canyon area.
the road was great but we got slowed down by traffic at several points. i got to practice when to pass on one way roads.
there's 2 or 3 hairpin turns that isn't very tight so it was very fun for a newbie like me.
i'll defnitely go back there on a non-busy weekday so that there'll be less vehicles.

I want to hear from dirtytoes!
And I hope you are getting over your fear of having the bike stolen V...and not limiting your riding like your originally said you would.

no, not really. im still paranoid to leave her alone.
parking at work is not so bad since im parking near the door and there's surveillance cams for the parking lot.
but for others and running errands... i'll just use my car.
and i was always following dirty so the only thing he can tell you is that he's faster than me.

Nice lookin ride V, grats on going back down to two wheels again
I didnt notice the mammoth exhaust on the 1k, until i saw the 750 beside it, much smoother looking. that really makes a big difference.
