This is for a project for my statistics class, it's a short survey related to riding habits, types of bikes and modifications. No personally identifying info is collected, and no info collected will be shared except for my school project. Thanks for helping out!

After taking your survey I feel cheap and superficial.

Hmm. I took your survey but the only problem is even if you answer no to "do you have a modified motorcycle?" you still have to answer the questions about riding and being ticketed for your modified motorcycle. Hope that doesn't skew your results.

Took your survey, and Veda is correct, your results are going to be badly skewed the way you have set up your questions.

By answering no to your leading modified bike question and the following questions by default are answered never.

Also, what do you mean by modified? By simply bolting on a windshield or replacing your OEM tail and turn lights with after market LED's, you have modified your bike.

The art of doing a good survey and getting good statistical data demands clear questions and a logical sequencing. I would advise redoing your poll and added in clarification as to what you mean by modified.

Thanks for the input, I've tweaked the questions a bit. When I was originally putting it together I was trying to take into consideration that some people have more than one bike. In those cases, if the rider has one that is modified and one that isn't, then I'm specifically interested in the bike that is modified.

Also, I'm including all kinds of modifications since some types of after market turn signals, etc. are technically not street legal.

Thanks again

I have never been ticketed for aftermkt pipes. The tickets (loud pipes) were on stock exhaust systems. Colo regs in 1972 (year of manufacture for bike in Question) are 86 dec at 50 feet, Colo Springs city regs are 72dec at 25 foot. Keeping in mind that dec are exponential State regs say I can be louder by a factor of 14 over the city regs.

I also do not understand blinker lights that are not DOT. Are they ok? (blinkers are not req. in my State) or like a speedo and front brake (also not req. but if eq. it must work)

All that is req. here is brake (one),spark arrester,(mufflers not req. if within noise limits) rear brake light(manufactured after 01July1941),tail light, plate light, (if not illuminated by tail light) horn (or bell), HI and LOw head light. Most other saftey eq. is req. on new bikes (even custom built) or for sales from a dealer (only if original eq on bikes less than 10 yrs old)but may be removed by owner. (dealer can also have buyer sign as-is statement)

Comment on the survey, modified does not equal illegal. So, again, skewed results to those of us who do mods to the bike that are still road legal.

And for more confusion, are you using "DOT approved" as definition of "street legal"?

I've used non-DOT approved parts that have been inspected and have passed. So technically makes them "street legal", right?
