Where is the logic in wearing a helmet iof you ride shirtless in shorts (well to ID the body)

Are you safer wearing a helmet Usually but not always.

Try riding in stop and go traffic at 100+ degrees where a helmet (due to increased head heat) can cause dehydration (along w/ all symtoms dizziness,disorientation,blurred vision etc) The tempature inside a helmet may be over 50 degrees above outside tempature. about 20 years age the minestry of transperTation (UK) did extensive test on this.
Extreme side wind (whipping your helmet may greatly increase fatigue)

The helmet that will make you safer in an accident may increase your chances of having said accident.

Most helmets are effective only at lower speeds, however most helmet use is on hiway not in town. Most auto deaths are from head injuries (with or without seat belts) and most cycle deaths are from bodily damage. Many ppl have a false sence of security w/helmet on (they will do stunts that they wouldn't try without.)
Many helmets (esp. older style full face) can increase neck injuries,.often causing paralasys. Professional racing prohibits helmets that can do this however they are still sold to the public.

The bottom line is that 90-95% of the time a helmet makes you safer,but the motorcyclist needs to know (education and experiance) If you wear helmet (either by choice or law) at least wear a good and properly fitting one. This is important for comfort as well as saftey. Most damage caused by helmets is because of improper fitting. I wish you could buy helmets in sizes like hats instead of S,M,L,XL.

I usually wear a helmet (against doctor's recomendations due to steel pins in jaw and migraines) but am against helmet laws. Even seat belts are a "secondary offence" (over age 16) and require a cop to pull you over for another violation first.

The worst reason for not wearing a helmet, heard this about a week ago "I can't talk on my cell phone going down the road" I gave this person directions to the spay and neuter clinic.

Umm,, because road rash is not as likely to kill you as much as a brain injury?

I choose No. Personally, I will always wear a helmet once I'm riding.

But to impose my personal choice on other riders who disagree doesn't seem right to me.

In my opinion, I think if they're going to enforce helmets, they should enforce leathers, too. Without one, the other is almost useless.

But then, like it's been said, that opens the door for over-regulation. But honestly, with all the morons out there that need the laws to keep them from splattering their brains across the highway, I think helmet laws are a good idea.

I vote yes, but I feel that the decision should be left up to the rider....

Absolutely YES - everyone should be required to wear a full face helmet.

Yes to the helmet law, prefer open face myself. Back in th 70's I oppossed it and went on a number of MAG rallies demonstrating against the law. Then in 78 hit a TR6 head on at 60 he was doing the same .

The Tiger 100 took his offside wheel completely off. T100 sustained some damage - Front end gone / petrol tank / engine case /points/ auto advance/ gear change /right hand pipes/ handlebars/Seat/wiring left the bike whilst following the battery.
Me I went through the air in total silence and darkness - thought that is it.

Hit the deck on my back and your head bounces as well. Wearing a lid saved me - sure of it. Leg bust.

I have nothing to say on the subject of the law. The state has its own agenda and is not guided by moral or paternalistic considerations - whatever way it likes to present its decrees.

Anyway, anyone who rides without a helmet is taking a big risk or is in a state of denial.

I have kept what remains of the lid I was wearing the first time I went down the road - just as a reminder. Since then, I've never ridden without one.

I wear a helmet not because I have to. It should be a choice. Wait till you see the other big brother ultimatums that are coming. I say fight the man every step of the way.

Air bags on Gold wings...is that to punch you back and off the bike on impact? Or is seat belts mandatory on airbag bikes?

I like a Goldwing. Thats a spiffy nice bike. But why airbags?
