10/5/06

so i went to mr carry andrews' shop.

long story short, like some of you guys said... i should improve my skills before i upgrade my suspension.

besides, he said the setting he did for me at the tracks last monday was already ideal for the tracks and canyons. he said it's not really meant to absorb all the bumps on the road.



so now i decided to get something else for my bike that i will surely notice the difference... a louder pipe and get rid of the catalytic converter. :wink:

i ordered a jardine gp1 slip-on for $214 shipped. the guy i called said i should get it around friday since im just in CA.

$214 seems like a very cheap way to fix what i want. it's not a pretty pipe but it will get the job done. i'll post pics and update when i put it on.

at least he has good taste in pipes.

And verm, the fact that the GP pipe is so hideous is what makes it so great. It's essentially a bike of pipe, with a can wraped around it, and a few holes punched into the pipe under the can.

Oh yeah, it may spit fire. Some of the riders with it on the 650R forums said they got their bike to spout fire once or twice.

cool! a little backfiring every now and then is not bad.

even on my stocker, i do get some backfiring every now and then.

Not when flames are involved. Unless you like crispy fried valves. Don't worry, it doesn't do it often enough to be an issue :wink:

YOU HAVE TO HAMMER IT!
Be it with the "special tool" or not. You need a hammer to undo the locking ring.

Secondly the rear preload does not have "settings". It doesn't click into place or show a number it is as simple as UP IS SOFTER AND DOWN IS HARDER.

my bike's preload has clickable settings :peep:

and you don't need a hammer either :mrgreen:

positive, kawasaki cheaped out on the rear shock. Hell, for the front forks they through in some springs set for a 400 lb rider and said ""fudge" it". It's also been said by some members on the 650 boards that it's one of, if not the easiest bike to turn the adjuster on they've ever used.

If you want rebound and damnpening, you need a penskie shock, which are $$$ like woah ($700 i think for 2-way)

Verm, living in CA, wont removing the catalitic converter do something for the emissions thing? (just curious, I really have no idea. enlighten me)

x2. CA is pretty strict on emissions. Do some research first. Didn't CA pass a decible inspection law as well?

nope, if you have the right tool. you won't need to hit it w/ a hammer. or maybe you still do but it sure as hell won't require forcing it with a screw driver.





regarding the pipe... all AM pipes is not street legal here. everyone does it and as long as you're not doing anything very dumb, cops don't usually care.

I think most cops have better things to do than worry about some bike's pipes, unless he's having a bad day. What I think everyone was asking is the inspection part. Unless you are going to swap your stock exhaust back onto the vehicle for inspection, how will it pass?

I dont know how it is in CA, but in PA, they dont test emissions on motorcycles, so I woudnt think they'd really do anything if you had no cat.

Unless they have to visually check for one...
