if anybody waved at me in the atlanta area about 6:30 pm the reason i didnt wave back was the back tire just blowed out at 45mph that is the reason for the fishtailing and sudden offroading experience.

Hope everything is OK now!

I live in Albuquerque New Mexico (Just transplanted from Sacramento, CA). I was riding my brand spanking New SV650, some guy going the other way on a scooter, waved at me. I was pretty stunned and just sorta rode on. I thought to myself quite a bit about this while zooming around. Two things kept coming to mind. The first thing was, "man I was rude by not waving back". The second thing was, "why was some middle aged dork on a scooter waving at me?". Now there is nothing wrong with being middle aged, I am there myself (got a bald head and beer belly to prove it).

So what should I do next time? I am leaning towards looking the other way next time I see a scooter coming.

I try to wave at everyone on a motorcycle or a scooter if I catch them in time. In Canada, the funny thing is most motorcyclists will wave back (well, not in the UK, but I'm trying to start the trend), and scooter riders they seem "confused" if they should or not....

I do find it embarassing to wave at a scooter rider and get nothing in return...not sure why.

I'll wave at anything on two wheels. Even been known occasionally to wave at a pizza bike - though mostly when I've not been paying attention. (Damn those lousy Triumph headlights.)

LOL!

I was trying to find a photo of one of those silly scooters with the pizza box on the back but I'm struggling to find a decent picture... I'm sure most of you have seen one anyways!

Seriously off topic but this is one of my favourite books:

Simon Gandolfi's "Old Man on a Bike," the story of a 70-year-old-teenager's American (N & S) motorcycle adventure on a Honda 125 pizza bike. I met this guy at a show. If he has ever used his 70-odd years wisely or managed to grow up, he hides it well. He couldn't stop giggling for over an hour. If you like a giggle, this is the book to read.

Here is the way I wave at other motorcycle riders.
Japanese Bikes: normal wave left hand
Crotch Rockets: I move my left arm down almost touching the ground with the palm of my hand facing the other rider
Choppers and High Handlebars: I raise both arms and make a fist like I am goosing the throttle
Harleys: I take my left hand and fold my hand looking like a gun and point it at the side of my head pretending I am shooting myself and I stick my tounge out and cross my eyes.
