how many of you here do the sidestand turn?

#1 Unread post by VermilionX »

the one where you turn your bike around while parked using the sidestand and turn it to face whichever way you wanna go.

i envy those guys. im not strong enough to do it. that would save me some time making 180º direction changes if i could do it.

anybody here do it?

Sounds lazy and dangerous but it must be cool. If you want to try it then do.
Since you can't do it, what does it even matter. Lift some weights, then do it so you can impress you ridng buddies.

I do it. I can do a 250 Nighthawk and my sis' Ninja 500R. I might be able to do my bro's Gixxer, as its lighter than the 500R, however it's also a lot wider and more clunky-ish.

This is when I'm at 100%... give me another 3 months for my arm.

Once you acutally get the bike onto the sidestand, its quite easy. It's hardest to get the front wheel off cuz so much weight is shifted towards the front, and it's not lazy. If you're in a garage and are just moving things around, it's a lot more convenient and looks quite cool to the neighbors.

Hey Verm I remember reading and article about this in Motorcyclist Magazine. I'll try to dig it up and scan it or something. How strong (or weak) are you? It shouldn't be TOO hard, you probably just need the right technique and use your body weight more.

i lean my bike over on the side stand to oil the chain and rotate the wheel...dont think i would ever stress the stand to that point cause im to lazy to point the bike in the right direction ;)

I wouldn't want to know what would happen if the kickstand flipped up on you, seeing as how it's on a hinge.

I did this with my 400XS, made turning it around in the car port easy and quick. I wouldnt do it with my Vulcan just due to the aquardness of the big tank and what not. that and its really low.

Its easy to do verm, your not pulling the whole weight of the bike, just tipping it a bit.

That's alot of weight to be putting on that stand... I wouldn't do it unless I absolutely have to...
