It's not that easy.

Arai helmets don't fit my head. I'm currently sporting an HJC of some sort.

Arai helmets are "better," but they're not necessarily better for any individual person. An HJC that fits well is great. An Arai that doesn't is virtually worthless.

My Motorcycle: '09 Triumph Bonneville
For me, Arai is better because their profile helmet fits my freakishly oval head. HJC does not. For the Spouse Thingy, Aria is not better because he has a giant round head, and one of the HJC fits him better.

So the answer is a great big...maybe, maybe not. Depends on your head.

Arai has two shapes. One similar to Shoei and HJC. I see your point however, Shoei would be a better comparison to HJC. So is Shoei better than a HJC? Yes no question.
If Arai and Shoei are Acura and Lexus(or Infiniti), then HJC is a Hyundai or a Kia. Or if you rather Arai is a Honda to HJC's Hyosung.
