I was driving south on Shaganappi in Calgary, as I was stopped at a traffic light, I noticed two motorcycles crossing the road in front of me.... I mean, it's the 29th of January and there's motorcycles cruising the streets of Calgary????? Mind you, I was driving with the windows wide open as well...

Tapping my feet. Waiting for the promised snow to arrive. Shall I ride to work today? Or will I be snowed in by the end of the day and unable to ride home? Tricky. Shall I?

If you ride and it snows, can you leave it parked at work until the next day?

I booked a bike for my holiday in Zanzibar and am busy downloading maps so I know here I am going. The Island is 125 x 35 KMs

How lost can I get

Cool. What size of bike do they rent on the island?

My lodger has been taking the "pee" and hasn't paid any rent for several months. I asked him to leave today. That was hard. He's a youngster, the son of a good friend - a nice lad in many ways, but all mouth and trousers. He's a typical 20-something and thinks righteousness is the same as a social conscience. I've given him a month to find somewhere else to live. He'll find that very difficult as private rents are soaring here and social housing waiting lists are expanding exponentially. He also has a big dog and lives by contract work, which doesn't come his way that often.

Work battles are escalating. I've made myself pretty unpopular with management. But some value will come out of it for colleagues, I hope. All this conflict is turning out to be pretty exhausting - and as if fighting management isn't hard enough, fighting the new cheap-o, slowcoach photocopier they've installed is taking it out of me even more.

Snow hasn't come yet, but I thought it might today, so I left the bike at home. Yes, you're right, blues, I could leave it at work if I got snowed in, but there is no shelter for it there, just an open courtyard - and in Stevenage it's a good rule of thumb that anything left unattended should be tied down with steel hawsers. The other thing that's putting me off is all the salt on the road.

On the plus side, I borrowed a series of "Dr Who" DVDs from Blockbuster a couple of nights ago and am losing myself in nostalgia. For those of you deprived of such wonders, "Dr Who" is an iconic BBC kids science-fiction programme that's been running for forever. I remember the very first episode back in the 1950s - it scared me shitless. It meets my presenht need for total escape from the adult world. :baby: I've also been watching a truly awful, badly made blood-and-gore fest called "Arena". That meets other needs.

 :bash: :poopstorm:

(I can't find smilies that do justice to the way I feel about everything that's going on at work - the TMW management is too nice a guy!)

(I looked it up, apparently 85% of roads are tarmac.)

Let's see some pics when you get back!

It was 52 deg by noon so I cranked up the wife's bike and
took it for a ride round the block. Made 36 miles before the
clouds cooled it off again.
