Motorcyclist Embarks on Cross Country #RideforAwareness

Allstate Insurance is sponsoring Nate Hudson's ride as he visits all 50 state capitals and logs more than 17,000 miles to generate awareness for motorcycle safety.

NORTHBROOK, Ill., May 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- To spread awareness about the vital role motorists play in helping to protect motorcycle riders, Allstate Insurance Company announced plans today to sponsor a motorcyclist's journey across the country on the first-ever "Ride for Awareness." Kicking off May 12, in conjunction with Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, the road trip crosses all 50 states and encourages motorcycle safety and awareness.
Based on data obtained from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, three motorcyclists are killed in multi-vehicle crashes at intersections each day. This is why it is crucial to educate motorists on the importance of watching out for motorcycles. This startling statistic was the inspiration for the Allstate Rider Protection Project, which is a series of programs and resources created to help keep riders safe while riding.
The Ride for Awareness will pass through each state capital, visiting the corresponding Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) headquarters to hand-deliver a proposal on behalf of Allstate. The proposal will request that a question highlighting the importance of sharing the road with motorcycle riders be included in each state's driver education curriculum and test required to obtain a driver's license.
"Allstate takes its commitment to motorcycle safety very seriously, as demonstrated by the countless safety efforts we've spearheaded on behalf of the riding community over the years," said David Foster, director of specialty product lines for Allstate Insurance Company. "The 'Ride for Awareness' is the perfect way to not only ensure that this important message of motorcycle safety is being heard in as many places as possible, but to also create a lasting impact on current and future motorists."
To complete this important mission, Allstate is sponsoring long-time motorcycle rider and fellow biker safety advocate Nate Hudson. Hudson has more than 20 years of riding experience, and is also co-owner of the British-American Motorcycle Club, a service shop and riding club with an emphasis on vintage and custom bikes.
"When Allstate approached me with the idea for the 'Ride for Awareness,' I knew it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. As a motorcycle enthusiast and long-time rider myself, motorcycle safety is incredibly important to me," said Hudson. "I can't wait to witness the effect that this campaign will have across the entire country. It's going to be an amazing journey."
Hudson has logged over 200,000 miles since his first ride at age 16, and is about to log 17,000 more on Allstate's "Ride for Awareness." Nate is making the 17,000 mile trek with a custom 2015 Indian Roadmaster tailored for Allstate. The bike is built for long-distance riding and has a strong engine ready for hitting all 50 states along the way.
