DUNGEY & MUSQUIN PICK UP A PAIR OF SECONDS AT #DETROIT; EXTEND CHAMPIONSHIP LEADS

@RedBull @KTM Factory riders Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin put in strong performances on Saturday at Ford Field Detroit to both pick up second place finishes and further consolidate their leads in the championship. The competition saw Round 12 of the 450 class and Round Six of the 250-class East Coast series.

Dungey, who rides the KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition finished second in his heat race after launching himself into the lead in the early part of the race. He went on to take an easy win for top gate pick in the main event. He again had a great start in his main event and quickly moved into the lead in the opening lap only to be passed by Eli Tomac in the second lap. Dungey then concentrated on riding a smart, mistake-free race to finish on the podium and now leaves the Detroit event with a 67-point lead in the championship chase.

“Of course the goal is to win each race that we can,” stated Dungey after the event. “But sometimes it’s important to remember to ride a safe race and maintain the points lead as we near the end of the series. We still have quite a few rounds remaining and it’s important to finish each on the podium.”

Red Bull KTM Factory teammate Marvin Musquin also turned the fastest lap of the day in the afternoon qualifying sessions to earn first gate pick for his main event. He got a great jump off the line in the second 250 Supercross heat, and was at second in at the first corner. He dropped to third a few corners later and then spent the next two laps reeling in the second placed rider. Once back in second he carried the position to the checkered flag.

The French KTM rider got a decent start in his main event and was in seventh at the first corner before quickly advancing to third place. A few laps later he made another pass and moved into the runner-up position and held onto it to the finish of the race. Musquin now has a 13-point lead in the points heading into the next round.

“I felt pretty good today,” stated Musquin. “I knew that I could maintain my points lead by remaining in second place so I rode a consistent race to finish on the podium.” Musquin is on the KTM 250 SX-F Factory Edition.
