@Yamaha Racings Dominant Day In #Gladstone

Yamaha Racing's three factory supported motocross teams turned on the gas at round nine of the 2014 MX Nationals, winning five out of the six motos contested, across the three championship classes, as action wrapped up from Gladstone yesterday.

Jacob Wright, Billy Mackenzie, Jay Wilson and Wilson Todd all won races in the MX1, MX2 and MXD classes respectively and the only moto Yamaha didn't win, we finished second, in a round that was dedicated to the memory of Jono Porter, marking 10 years since his passing.

MX1 - CDR Yamaha
The CDR Yamaha team was back to full strength at round nine with Jay Marmont, Billy Mackenzie and Jacob Wright all lining up for the factory outfit. Mackenzie finished the day in second place on the back of his 5-1 results in the two motos. Mackenzie struggled with the rutted track in the first moto and dropped back to fifth after leading early, but redeemed himself in race two taking a wire to wire win.

The result keeps Mackenzie in third place in the championship with one round remaining this weekend at Coolum.

Jacob Wright continues to flourish under the CDR team guidance and again was fast on the weekend. Wright grew up in the Gladstone region and had plenty of friends and family there to cheer him on.

He took the win in the Go Pro Superpole event and took that form into race one where he motored away for an impressive race win to the delight of the local fans. Out to make it a clean sweep of the round, his hopes were soon dashed when Wright fell on the opening lap and was left mid pack and with plenty of work to do. He clawed his way back to sixth and the combined 1-6 results gave him equal third for the day, fourth on a count-back.

Wright holds down sixth in the championship.

Jay Marmont returned to the track after injuring his wrist but moto one saw him jar it again and he was forced to withdraw from that race. He return for moto two and came home a respectable seventh place.

"On the whole, it was a pretty good effort," team owner Craig Dack sums up. "We won both motos, won Superpole and finished with one rider on the podium and the other just off it due to a count-back.

"The final round of the year is at Coolum and it's a venue that has been kind to us in the past so we hope to finish out the season strongly," Dack ends.

MX2 - SERCO Yamaha
Luke Clout continues to lead the MX2 championship into the final round after finishing fourth in Gladstone. A couple of small falls cost him a better result in race one and he could only manage a fifth place finish, but a mistake free run in moto two saw him finish in second place and fall just one point short of landing on the podium for the round.

Clout carries a 32 point lead into the final round over Luke Arbon but will need to continue to score good points in every race to secure the championship.

Jay Wilson took an impressive moto win in race one on his Serco Yamaha YZ250F. Wilson came from fourth early in the race to move to the front just after the halfway point and not look back. He defended a late race charge from Hamish Dobbyn to secure the win.

Moto two saw Wilson fall in the first lap and come around in 21st place at the completion of the opening lap. He charged his way back to a top five position in the 30 minute moto, only to fall again on the final lap and drop back to seventh. Still, his 1-7 results saw him take third for the round and move to fifth in the championship chase.

"A couple of small mistakes from both riders was the difference between winning and not winning today," said Serco owner, Gavin Eales. "Both guys rode their hearts and deserved a good result; it was just a shame that both of them had small falls which cost them any chance of winning the round.

"The boys will put in a big week in the workshop and ensure both bikes and riders are in top form for the final round."

MXD- GYTR Yamaha
Wilson Todd broke through for not only his first race win of the year, but also his first round win and made it happen in the best possible way; a 1-1 result. Todd struggled in the early morning qualifying session but come race time he was in fine form and won the opening moto by 8 seconds after passing his way into the lead.

Moto two was much the same and Todd moved into the lead in the early laps and withstood plenty of pressure to take the win, his first at the MX Nationals.

The team enlisted WA gun Kyle Webster to fill the seat for the injured Jed Beaton. Kyle performed strongly after having to make quick adjustments to a bike he was not used to. In both motos he was running inside the top 4 and looking good only to fall and drop down the field. He finished seventh in moto one and 14th in race two to give him 11th overall.

"It was great to see Wilson come of age today and get that first race and round win," said team manager, Scott Bishop. "As a team we felt he had been building towards this for a while and his form at recent rounds has been impressive.

"Kyle was riding well and did all the hard work to get himself in a good position only to fall off. But he had a lot going on with a new team, new bike and surrounds. I'm sure that he will bounce back at Coolum."

The 10th and final round of the MX Nationals will happen this weekend at Coolum Pines Raceway on the Sunshine Coast. The big weekend finale is always the highlight of the MX Nationals calendar with a big crowd always on hand to witness the action on one of Australia's best tracks.
