#Yamaha R-Series Continues Winning Ways Overseas

The Yamaha #YZFR1 and #YZFR6 continues to be the machine to beat in road racing competitions the world over. Last week saw victory for Yamaha in both the USA in the AMA class and in Japan in the All Japan Superbike Championship.

Over the first weekend in June in the USA, Wisconsin welcomed the AMA Superbike and Daytona Sportbike classes at the Road America circuit. It was business as usual for the Monster Graves Yamaha team with Josh Hayes running in a class of his own on his Yamaha YZF-R1. Hayes stormed to pole position and then took both Superbike races, making it an impressive five consecutive victories at the track. Hayes aced the first race, leading from pole and was never challenged for the lead. Teammate Josh Herrin had been in contention for a podium finish behind Hayes until the last laps when a drop in pace left him in sixth position.

Race two proved to be a tougher battler for Hayes, although it took just a third of race distance for him to take control at the front again and bring home his second win of the weekend with a tight 0.8 second winning margin. Herrin was again not far behind his teammate and held on this time to make it two YZF-R1s on the podium with a third position finish.

The results put Herrin in second in the overall standings and Hayes fourth as they head to Birmingham, Alabama on June 21st-23rd.

Daytona Sportbike The closely contested Daytona Sportbike class was again dominated by the Yamaha YZF-R6. Cameron Beaubier was the man to beat in race one, leading all 13 laps of the race with his Yamaha Extended Services Graves Motorsports YZF-R6. Not far behind in second place was Jake Gagne on the RoadRace Factory Red Bull Yamaha machine. The next three riders home were J.D Beach, Jake Lewis and Garrett Gerloff, making it an all Yamaha top five.

Gagne turned the tables on Beaubier for race two, taking his first win of the AMA season after an epic battle between the Yamaha Supersport machines. Once again it was Lewis, Beach and Gerloff following over the line to claim another Yamaha top five.

Beaubier’s performance secures him the lead in the Daytona Sportbike standings with Gagne second then Gerloff and Beach, making it a Yamaha top four overall.

The Yamaha YZF-R1 was also tasting victory in Japan with three-time All Japan Superbike Champion Katsuyuki Nakasuga taking his first win of the season in the third round at the Autopolis circuit. Having recovered fully from a pre-season left-shoulder injury the Yamaha YSP Racing Team rider was on top form, leaving it until four laps from the end to break away and take his R1 to the top step of the podium. The victory puts Yamaha’s MotoGP test rider in second place in the overall standings, 11 points behind leader Kohsuke Akiyoshi as they head for Tsukuba on 30th June for round four.
