Hi everyone. I have ridden m/c for many years, but recently bought in 1980 Honda CM 400E. I cannot get it up onto the center stand. Any ideas why that is? I cannot even begin to “rock” it backward onto the stand. Thanks.

We have three street motorcycles here with center stands, and the smallest and lightest of them (wife's bike) is the worst to get up on the stand. That bike was factory lowered, but BMW didn't adjust the physics of the center stand to compensate, and it is just miserable to get on its stand. And I'm a big, reasonably strong guy.

All I can tell you is find something solid on the bike's frame, and pull up hard while pushing down hard on the center stand with your foot. If I coordinate the two motions right, I can usually get just about anything up on its stand. (I'm assuming there's nothing damaged or out of whack with your Honda's center stand.)

716lbs. That's what the 1987 Yamaha Venture I flipped weighed. It had a center stand. Grab the left hand grip with your left hand, the left rear grab handle with your right, and proceed to stand all your weight on the stand while rolling the bike backward with your arms.
