Re: Beginner Jacket
Along with Joe Rocket, look at First Gear, Olympia, Shift... you can get a really good jacket for under 300 easily.

Re: First bike, suggestions please
CC wise? I'd try to keep it under 800cc, though I will say that I think my Bonneville (at 865) would not be a horrible first bike. For cruisers, you'd got a heck of a lot of options. Honda Shadow VLX (just under 600cc), Shadow Spirit (or Aero) at 750 cc, Kawasaki Vulcan 500 (if you can find one) or ...

Re: New bike and MSF course
Yep, that is a whole lot of bike. It's pushing 650 pounds, hovers somewhere around 72 HP... would not be my first choice for a brand new rider. The ideal would be if you could store the bike for a while and pick up something a little more newby friendly, but if that's not an option, learning on it i...

Re: New rider
The s40 is a good first bike and probably won't be a quick turn-over bike. The only issue I know of it is that it runs very lean and has a tendency to backfire, but you can get the carbs re-jetted to correct that, or just live with it. Some riders think it adds a little character

Now...I'm on a Triumph Bonneville. I also have a Suzuki Gladius in the garage but I need to sell that one. After the Rebel I moved to an SV650, then got a Piaggio MP3 scooter... the Bonneville is most like riding the Rebel, and I think this might be *the bike.*
I hope.

Re: seriously, motorcyle vs. scooter - non-tech differences
Piaggio MP3 500? Auto tranny, and you won't even need to hold the thing up at a stop (the tilting mechanism for the two front wheels can be locked). Lean it like a regular bike at speed, get three contact patches as a bonus, it looks like the head of an Autobot, and it's officially cool (according ...

Re: Seat Height Help
I'm not sure about the ground clearance on the Sabres, but in theory you could have a lowering link put on the back, and then raise the forks a little bit to effectively lower the bike. I'm guessing the most you could get is an inch lower (some bikes you can drop the back a good 3 inches, but cruise...

Re: Are rider denim pants worth two squats?
I've got a few pair of riding jeans...Australian Draggin camos, Shift jeans, and Icon Superduty. I went down at low speed in a pair of Icons and they held up well, but it was very low speed. The AU Draggin jeans have really good Kevlar coverage (better, I think, than the US version) and are very com...

Re: Somthing VERY cool about this forms members
I don't understand why anybody would care what they ride, That's just it...no one here cares what someone else rides. No one cared for the over 2 years I rode the MP3 scooter. If; I'd replaced it with a TMax, no one would have cared. In fact, if I *had* replaced it with another scooter it would hav...

Re: Somthing VERY cool about this forms members
what will the hot babes think if they seen me riding a scooter Well, I'm not a hot babe, but I can assure you that a scooter is never an issue when I look at a guy, but the moment "if they seen me riding" came out of his mouth I would dismiss him on intelligence points. Not that I notice grammar or...

Re: New Rider Anxiety
How long have you guys been riding? What kind of bikes??? Have either of you had a Rebel? If so, what do you think about them? I'm really enjoying the fact that it's lightweight. Makes me more comfortable on my ungraceful take-offs and stops! Rhonda I've been riding for 5-6 years...and I started ou...

Re: New Rider Anxiety
Sounds perfectly normal to me. I started out on the same bike...and man that felt big for a while (I'd been on big bikes as a teen...but when you have better wits about you, you know that little 250 is a BIKE.) Once I was ready to leave the parking lot (or in my case, the court we lived on) I putt-p...

Re: what bike to look at purchasing
Both are good bikes, but after 20 years off a bike I would go with the Shadow (presuming you mean one of the 750cc Shadows and not the VLX, which is a good bike, too...) It would be a little more forgiving of rusty-rider mistakes, but would still be capable of any typical riding you'd want to do--ar...

Re: seriously, motorcyle vs. scooter - non-tech differences
I think a lot of people assume scooters are safer, but the little Vespas and Helix putt-putts out there really aren't. The smaller wheels and shorter wheelbases make them less stable. Move up into the big scooter class, though, and you just have a motorcycle that looks different and doesn't have a c...
