Re: protective gear

...the first part of your post is a bit condescending but i guess there are a lot of dopey people out there and need that spelled out... I have no idea of who you are and your riding experience. You say you have 0 years experience. Some riders think that with armour they are somehow very protected....

Re: Newb buying gear, confused by the options

I buy gear new and used, always in person. I too, have a short financial leash. For gloves, you need to try them on to see if they fit your hands. Gloves can be expensive but are worth the extra cost for better protection and comfort. I recommend buying gloves from a retail store in your area, where...

Re: protective gear

Summary: The protective gear is the one between your ears: Learn to ride safely, to predict, find and remove yourself from trouble spots before you are ever in danger, to stay away from drivers with psychological issues that want to kill you, either benignly or with intent. In the unlikely event tha...

Re: Buying an older bike as a begginner

Older bikes can offer excellent value for money and smiles per mile. That said, they are older and need maintenance. When considering the older bike note that consumables will need to be replaced, and their cost needs to be discounted from the purchase price. These include: tires (older than 5 years...

Re: So I went to the Harley Dealers yesterday and ..........

The difference between the Sportster 883 Low and the Sportster 883 is the lower seat height. Low has mid controls and other Sportsters may have mid or forward controls. Other than that the bikes are identical. I think all Sporster Customs have forward controls. The Sportster is a fun bike to ride bu...

On the used market there are alternatives, all Honda Shadows:
-'82-'84 Honda VT500C Shadow
-Honda VLX 600

Both these bikes are very reliable, have similarly low seat heights, and will be lighter than the 750.

Since this is your second bike, get whatever you want!

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT WINDS OF AT LEAST 35 MPH OR WIND GUSTS OF AT LEAST 46 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION. SMALL TREES... AND POWER LINES CAN ALSO BE BROUGHT DOWN BY WINDS IN THIS RANGE. It seems to be a...

No worries, if all that needs replacing is the rear tire. Ensure that the frame is not bent, as well as shocks. The earlier (before '97) VLXs had dual carbs and are pretty nice. Get a new rear tire from eBay and you're in business.
