My wife and I run older bikes {82 and 83 Silverwings], so I know what I am talking about with older bikes. First the asking price is too much on those bikes, second if you don't do your own maintanance, walk away now. Our bikes are very good, but I have spent about 8 hours working on them this past ...

I tore the rear suspension apart on my 83 650 Silverwing, cleaned and molyed all the bushings. My wife and I went for a 100 km ride and it is just great, rides like a new bike. She had a little trouble keeping up at one point when I started to pull 8500 rpm shifts, but I couldn't resist.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Myself I like shaft drive over chain any day. The filth and constant maint of chain drive turned me off years ago. One thing I have found though is that most dealers don't have a clue about what lube is suposed to be used on the final drive, and that has a huge impact...

Last fall I picked up a 500 Interceptor in great shape for $800. The bike didn't fit my old body too well so I sold it and got a 82 500 Silverwing with 18000 km for $1200. My wife layed clame to that one so I found a 83 650 Silverwing Interstate with 39000 KM for $1750. The older bikes need a bit mo...

I got a Joe Rocket mesh jacket from "New Enough", and I like it. The price was great too at $49, and it fit as they said. They have some good deals on some times.

Welcome, my wife rides too. We are just getting back to riding after a 18 year lay off. She is riding a 1982 500 Silverwing now. We did a 200 km ride today with our daughter on her bike and Grandson on behind me. If you would like to chat with her drop me a pm and I will give you her email.

It is called a transvers twin, and it is a Silverwing, not a Goldwing. Oak Lake is not that far away, and as a matter of fact, I grew up in Kemnay, between Oak Lake and Brandon.

You are right High_Side, the 650 has a lot more snap than the 500. I do wish we would have found a 500 in as good shape though, because our insurance in Manitoba take a big jump after 500cc. My wife has opted for the 500, because it just feels better to her. The 650 has a throttle lock, and I must g...

I have a GL500 and a GL650. They are great bikes as far as I am concerned. I have less than $3000 in the 2 bikes and they run great. With insurance costs the way they are, a mid sized bike saves a lot of $'s too.

Just picked up the 1983 GL650 Silverwing. My wife is laying clain to it, but I think I prefer the 500 anyway.
